GREAT PARK :D The park was very nice, a few pieces of litter but mostly clear, and not too many people because theyre all spread out in the park, its a very big park :D Theres lots of flat grassy spaces for picnics aswell as benches and bins for rubbish placed all around the park, also many ducks and geese to share your sandwiches with, there was a lake for the ducks too and a floaty ring just incase anyone fell in, the path was quite slippy. Theres mini golf but not sure where youd get the stuff to play it, but they had a mini golf course, there was also a playground with a climbing frame, roundabout, slide, wobblers and swings at the park, there were multiple different types of swings available aswell which was good :D Also the Fernery was very nice, lots of ferns and waterfall looking things, not too hot either like tropical houses at the zoo so you dont get sweaty when you go in. It was open 10AM - 4PM and there was no entree fee. There are posts to lock bikes to near the entrance aswell :) The birds were mega friendly too, some of them would say hello to you! I RECCOMEND THIS PARK :D

The gardens & wildlife are beautiful and the playground and mini golf was thoroughly enjoyed by my family of 4 so they really do deserve 5* However the pub food was disgusting over £5 for a rock hard jacket potato that looked liked it had been thrown together and a small side plate of chips for £2.50 that took over a 20 minutes wait. Also the public toilets are 20p to use and were that filthy my son was nearly throwing up with the smell. I would visit again but I would either take a picnic or visit one of the local pubs which are close by for a meal and I would definitely not use the public toilets again. That said there is plenty of on street parking at the front and there is a designated carpark. The park is wheelchair accessible and dog friendly though there are colour coded areas Orange areas No Dogs Allowed Yellow areas dogs on leads at all time. Also be aware on the spot fines are issued to dog owners who fail to follow this.

Such a lovely park to visit, I have been coming here since I was a kid. Great playground for kids to play on, lots of grass space for kids and dogs to run around, well kept aviaries and beautiful gardens that are maintained by volunteers and donations. Food and drink from the Settle Inn is nice and reasonably priced. The other cafe could do with a revamp and something could be done with the old museum (other than ghost tours at night). The lake is what lets it down (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) but the current campaign to get it dredged is going strong. It's terrible that the council don't put any money towards its upkeep.

All our public parks and gardens are special places, and it's lovely to see the results of the hard work carried out by a small group of volunteers. The new "stumpery" outside the Settle Inn is a really nice feature, very much in keeping with the park's Victorian origins. It is only sad to see that some areas of the park are badly neglected, a result of lack of funds and not enough volunteers. There are so many young people who go there to meet up and have a laugh. It would be fantastic to have some of them teaming up to do a bit of horticulture and make the park an even better place to hang out.

This is a completely new find for me. I am a disabled visitor and reviewer. I can honestly say this place is fantastic. I can get round the whole gardens on my mobility scooter, and it's fabulous to see. I finish off my trip with a stop at The Settle in, you would be hard pushed to find more helpful staff, they're helpful and friendly and nothing seems to much trouble, whilst still respecting your privacy. Sandwiches are fresh daily and taste it; food is cooked to order, fabulously hot too. It is most definitely worth a visit; beware holidays and weekends are busy.

I stopped off at the Botanical Gardens while out cycling just to check out the flower displays near to the entrance. I didn't venture into the rest of the park on this visit, but I will do at some point in the summer, so I will update the review at that point. The flower displays are in full bloom and look really good, and the variety of birds in the aviaries were rather vocal, although I didn't get any photos of them on this visit. That said, if the rest of the park is anything like the entrance area, it will be worth visiting if you are in the area.
