As a party of 3, we ate here 3 times in 2 weeks whilst away with work. 2 meals were lovely with good service (hence the repeat visits). Good vegetarian varieties and in general good pub grub and a nice atmosphere with a mix of locals and visitors, like ourselves. Tonight was our third visit and I'm guessing the chef has Tuesdays off as the food was abysmal. The vegetarian lasagne was still frozen in the middle and was sent back. The garlic bread that should come with the lasagne arrived after the frozen lasagne was sent back and was eaten as a starter whilst the other 2 in our party started eating their burgers as we all waited patiently for the lasagne to make a reappearance that never happened. The burgers were left uneaten as they were undercooked and still pink in the middle. I very rarely complain but for all 3 meals to be undercooked was very poor. The lady behind the bar was very busy and very apologetic. She was, absolutely, the saving grace of our visit and she dealt with the problems very well under stressful conditions. It was obviously a kitchen issue and she was bearing the brunt of somebody else's poor performance. Please hire a decent chef for the days when your real chef is off and save the bar staff a mental breakdown. Another option is don't do food if you can't provide the same quality every night. Oh, and if it was your actual chef on tonight, please get some retraining before you kill someone with...

At the end of the evening however, we were speaking with the landlord about events coming up for easter etc. We were complimenting him on what a lovely place he had, but as we went to leave the landlady bellowed from upstairs calling us twats and telling us to get out and asking what we thought we were playing at... then slammed a door so hard it actually hurt my ears.
I realise it was late and we were chatting... but we'd finished our drinks, we were ready to leave, and it was only 20 minutes after serving, and it was the landlord doing most of the talking!
If you can't put up with customers drinking and chatting in your pub without calling them twats and banging doors, don't run a pub.
In a nutshell, I hate to rate this poorly... but a great evening was completely ruined by that one experience and we shall not be returning...
Read moreBooked a week in advance for a birthday meal and paid deposits for all attendees. Checked that we could take the dog at the time of booking and we were assured that we could eat in the 'Snug'. On the night of the meal we were called by the Management of the Abbey saying that we couldn't eat the snug as it was busy so we would need to go in the restaurant area but we could not bring the dog. My wife explained that the dog could not be left on her own and that people were on their way from outside Sheffield for this meal. This fell on ignorant ears and due to their lack of customer care they had allowed people to fill up the snug and were unprepared to move them so we had to try and find somewhere else on a Friday evening at an hours notice. Future customers, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else if you're thinking of visiting this place. It looks nice but it obvious the management treat their customers with...
