We were in town for a reunion with our travelling companion's friends-- they did their post doc studies here. The gaggle of nine of us piled into the restaurant on a reservation and had an absolutely delightful evening. Everybody got something different and every bit of it was amazing. Our friend can be a bit of a snob about Indian food, so for them to give it a five star is a big compliment!. If you happen to be in Sheffield and want some good Indian food I'd highly recommend it. They have something for all spice levels-- I can't do any spice anymore and the mango delight was over the top good.

A small Indian restaurant with a take away too and a bring your own drinks policy. The restaurant part can sit less than 50 people but doesn't feel too cramped. Food is consistently good, but nothing spectacular. Prices are reasonable, but the portions are on the small side compared to some places. The staff are alright for the most part, but can be overly quiet when speaking and rushed when setting dishes down on the table. Even on a Sunday, the restaurant fills up quickly. Either go early or book a table so you don't miss out.

My partner has been coming here for over 20 years, I recently started to enjoy the right of passage. The food is phenomenal (coming from London where we have a huge amount of Indian restaurants, I can hand on heart say The Rajput is one of the bests I’ve come across). The chicken is always so tender with no gristle, portion sizes are very generous and the food is the perfect balance of spices and heat. I always look forward to coming to Sheffield so I can indulge in a Rajput. It is the highlight of my trip!

Awful service!

I booked a table 3 weeks in advance for this evening. With it being eat out to help out, I rang last night to double check the time it was booked for (couldn’t remember if it was 6 or 6:30). Whilst on the phone I was passed to 4 different people who couldn’t find my booking - eventually someone confirmed my booking and ended the call ‘see you tomorrow’.

Today, 40 minutes before the table was booked I received a call stating that it was booked for the wrong day, and to come tomorrow instead. This is completely unacceptable and not even a shred of an apology was given. I work Wednesday evenings so couldn’t do this, when I said this the very unprofessional man on the phone grunted ‘right’ and hung up.

I am 100% confident this was just a lie to try and pass the blame, and am appalled at the way the situation was handled.

After ringing round a few restaurants a very helpful man at Jaflong managed to squeeze us in, and we had a lovely evening.

The service has never been perfect at Rajput but today was far, far from it and none of my party will be returning - what a shame this is. I have worked in restaurants for years and would be ashamed to give this...

As previous reviews rightly mention, the staff here are sooo rude. I was passing by with my friend and I was hungry so decided to go in and grab a quick dinner. When we entered, the place was completely empty so we actually thought they were closed. There were two not very enthusiastic waiters there. I ordered chicken (starter) and chips, to have it as a main, I'm a tiny girl so this was a big portion for me, and we got drinks and poppadom too. Then the waiter had a go at me for only ordering a starter and chips! And said in a very rude manner that we're not supposed to come here and only had that to eat...we were mindblown by the fact that the waiter was making us feel guilty for what I ordered, and also...the place was completely emtpy?! I ate the food because I was hungry, but I wouldn't be surprised if they spat in my food tbh. Definitely will not be returning to this indian...

Recently went with a party of about 10 and all in all a little disappointed. It's got such a good reputation. We waited quite a long time for the food after we'd ordered. It was nice but nothing to rave about. I had the biryani which was a little bland and a smaller portion than I had expected. Not bad though for the price.

My main complaint though was the staff's general vibe. They didn't smile once and were fairly rude when bringing the food out. If we didn't know exactly who had ordered each dish straight away they just kept barking out the name of the dish in an aggressive tone. We are a very friendly and considerate bunch - I can only assume they thought we were a large party of university students (we weren't) and therefore couldn't be bothered with us.

I'd give a 2.5 if I could. Not awful. Not great....
