Been going to Weston Park right since my early childhood when I lived in Sheffield and even though I no longer live in Sheffield (moved to Staffordshire before my later childhood) it still remains one of my favourite parks to visit and my favourite park in Sheffield, especially when I sometimes travel to Sheffield for a day out. Still remember going there with my family when I was little and used to see all the ducks & pigeons around the Pond and sometimes feed them (don't think I'd do that now though unless its with food that is suitable for them) and around that time, I think there used to be more trees in the park. That being said, the park looks so much tidier & better maintained now compared to my younger days and it looks so nice with the Weston Park Museum beside it (which has a cafe), the flower beds in the park, the Bandstand (one of the few glass-covered bandstands of its type), the War Memorials and the Pond (overlooking the Arts Tower). And there are also some Tennis Courts at the north of the park in case anyone's interested and there's also the Crookes Valley Park & Ponderosa just beside it, which can all make for a larger Park experience. My only issues with this park is that Car Parking can sometimes be difficult to find on busier days, as the closest parking to Weston Park is on Mushroom Lane and that on the rare occasion, Air Ambulances can sometimes land in the park as there is no dedicated helipad for the Children's Hospital (it was nice to see one land there a few years ago but it might be a nuisance for people who are resting in the area) but apart from those two minor points, its a perfect...
Read moreEach time I visit Sheffield I aim to visit one of the parks, however on this occasion I managed to visit three! Weston Park was the first and is a lovely park near the Children’s Hospital and by the University. You can get there by tram or bus but the weather was so great that I decided to walk there from the railway station. NB if you have never visited Sheffield you need to be aware that you will mostly be walking uphill, so wear sensible shoes and, if in doubt, use public transport!😹 The park itself is relatively small with lots of grassed areas, a duckpond with a couple of bridges, plenty of benches and a coffee cart. Around the park you will also see a number of war memorials. There’s also an icecream van just beyond the gates. It’s also the home of Weston Park Museum which itself is well worth a visit. The park is very popular with visitors of all ages and a good site...
Read moreWeston Park is a really lovely park and one of three located next to each other (Crooks Valley Parks). It is very well maintained and peaceful to walk around and you can always make a bit more of a day of it by visiting Western Park Museum at the same time.
The paths are smooth but winding and undulating around the park, with various monuments, memorials and points of interest to have a look at. I visited in early spring and it was lovely, but I do plan on going back when the summer arrives, as I imagine the planting will really brighten up the area further into the year.
It's amazing and testament to Sheffield's tag line of 'The Outdoor City' that such a green space can be so close to the hustle and bustle of a...
