We went to the Punch Bowl for a change as a family. Myself, my ex wife & younger son go to Sheffield once a month to see our older son who lives there. I asked him to recommend somewhere that wouldn't have football on so he recommended it here because he drinks in the venue.

It's a bit more expensive because it's not a carvery pub. The Sunday roast is cooked to order meaning no dried up meat and no kept warm roasties.

We all have Sunday roasts and it was the best we've had in years. The meat was succulent, the roasties perfect, the veg tender but not mushy and the Yorkshire pudding was massive!

We were waited on mostly by Matilda who was bright, cheery and very professional. Also waiting on us was Layla (hope that's spelled correctly) who was just the same. They both did the house proud and made out visit even better.

I had to make Layla return the card machine to the tip screen because she is clearly too polite to ask for the tip that they both deserved very well. That's also probably a symptom of how much abuse service and retail staff get these days but a tip they got and a tip they deserved.

While it's more expensive that where we usually go, I was more than happy to pay extra and will visit there again...

*update in response to reply. We had already waited a long time (albeit reasonable in the circumstances given it was quiz night, and it would have taken some time again for a replacement). The fish should never had been served. Of course the food was not charged for as none of mine was touched.

We are local and love this place...but...so, so, so disappointed in our food on what was supposed to be our 26th anniversary (and my wife said as much when booking). It's the first time ever (and I'm 53) that I've ever had to send food back having eaten nothing of what was called fish n chips placed in front of me. I think it may have been because it was busy (quiz night), but it was nearly cinders and as tough and as dry as a bone when delivered. So sad and ruined what ought to have been a special occasion. Sorry Punch Bowl, but true. To show there was zero hard feelings, I still tipped the...

came to Punchbowl for a late sunday roast yesterday. i can understand that for later in the evening that there would be the possibility of roast options having sold out so that wasn't a problem. however, we waited over an hour, when our food arrived we were disappointed to find that the cauliflower cheese was essentially a single piece of cauliflower, that the meat felt cold in some spots (well cooked but felt like it had been sat there for a little bit). in terms of enjoying our experience, I overheard a snide comment made by a group of waitresses after asking for directions to the bathroom which did make me feel a little bit small and was deeply unprofessional. we were very disappointed by the service we received after feeling rushed to order and then rushed to pay we left with a very bitter taste...

We came because we usually enjoy a drink up here. This occasion was not so good. Pints were as usual, can't complain with the ales. The cocktail of the week tasted like dishwater, with clumps of egg yolk at the bottom where it had been insufficiently frothed. We ordered the 3 for 10 'bar snacks'. The chips were bog standard. The padron peppers were fine. The chicken however was revolting. Undercooked, with rubbery skin. My friend actually vomited on himself because of the chicken. Evidence of his sweatshirt to prove it. Safe to say, despite previously liking it up here, I'll not be rushing back.

Had a amazing time here on February 22nd due to the event Adam put on ā€œFact Fiend Liveā€ The staff were friendly, Adam was amazing and just wow never felt so welcomed as I did in the punch bowl. Even tipped the waitress who was serving all of us upstairs, Thank you so much to all the staff that worked that night you all made it that much special for all of us. I’m not a Sheffield resident as I’m from Coventry but if I ever find my self back up north I will definitely come in for a cheeky pint or 3. Thank you Adam for making us all feel welcome and safe.

Great comforting sunday lunch. Started with gnoochi with peas and mint, really light, fresh tasting dish. For main course my partner had pork belly, which was a massive portion, sadly no crispy skin, but other wise excellent. I had the beef cheek braised in Guinness which was a total delight. Spot on Yorkshires and lovely carrots. Add to that a pretty decent wine list, especially by the glass options. Its a busy bustling sunday service, dogs, kids, lots of chatter. with a mix of hungover students and large families. Great atmosphere, Loved it
