Should be called THE SADMIRAL!!!

Utterly vile, these people have an absolutely disgusting and disgraceful attitude to customer service! Probably the worst I have ever experienced at any chippy, anywhere at any time. (And I’ve been to a lot of chippies in my 60 years on this planet).

And there’s no point the owner or manager coming on here to defend the absolutely indefensible - he emerged from the back just as his ‘team’ were telling me to “go somewhere else if you don’t like it”. In fact, he didn’t even raise a millimetre of an eyebrow when two of his staff thought it was OK to behave like complete POS towards me. He is obviously used to it and clearly couldn’t care less as long as the money keeps rolling in. If you want the full story, head over to my October 2023 review by ‘Shaun’ on Trip Advisor. In the meantime, if you are contemplating spending your hard-earned here - DON’T!!! Not only is the so-called ‘customer service’ beyond reprehensible but the chips were lukewarm, stale, greasy and, at £2.80 you get a minimal portion that’s exceptionally poor value for money/a rip-off.

Since I have sworn never to set foot in this place again - and advised my many friends and family in and around the Crookes area to do the same - I have discovered a much, much better chippy just a hundred yards or so further down the road. It’s called Five Star Fish & Chips. The people who run it are lovely, the service is great and so is the food. Highly recommended and so much better than the SADmiral - which used to be good but has clearly gone severely downhill in recent times.

Hi James, your attempted ‘defence’ is not only laughable but also pretty insulting - but what more (or less) could I honestly expect from a place where the kind of behaviour I experienced is tolerated if not condoned?

On the one hand you say you are sorry to hear about my “awful experience” and then, on the other, you say (presumably referring to me) you “don’t accept any aggression or hostility” towards your staff. Surely both of these statements can’t be true at the same time? Or perhaps in your world, two such massively conflicting and contrasting assertions can indeed be reconciled into one coherent reality?

As we and your staff know, I didn’t raise my voice or behave in an aggressive or hostile manner at any time. Indeed, I even said - although maybe with a slight hint of sarcasm - “thank you” as I left.

The fact that you want to portray this situation as a big, bullying, angry old ogre shouting at a poor, defenceless sixteen year old girl who is just trying to get some pocket money together is not only a severe case of attempted ‘gaslighting’ of me but also your customers who may read this review. If you look again at what I wrote on Trip Advisor, you will see I didn’t say I was bullied but rather I stated that your two employees closed ranks, told lies and were downright rude and insulting - all true and all ingredients in the appallingly poor customer service I received.

And why do you refer so emphatically to the girl’s age? I actually do not care if she is 16, 61 or 160 - it is wholly irrelevant to the fact that both she and her colleague were massively insulting to me and I left your shop feeling humiliated by their disgusting behaviour. If you cannot accept this, that is up to you, but I would prefer it if you could just put your hands up and offer me a sincere apology or, even better, an assurance that you will endeavour to ensure your staff - whatever their age or gender - are trained to treat customers with some basic respect. I also asked you not to come on here and defend the indefensible, and yet that is exactly what you have attempted to do. As for your incredibly generous offer of £2.80 worth of chips, presumably as some kind of ‘compensation’, let me get back to you on that. In the meantime, I stand by every word of my original...

Disappointed! Popped in a few times, order the usual, 2 large fish, large chips, peas and curry sauce (and a large sausage for the dog) and have always been pleasantly impressed with the portions, friendliness and taste.

However last night, I was so disappointed, I will not be returning! The amount of chips we got for a LARGE was laughable The fish was cheap tasting and the batter was soggy And as for the service, this was not great at all! No friendly warm welcome as we usually receive, service was slow and we had to repeat the order at least three times and there was only us in Then as our order was being put together an older gentleman came in to complain about being given two regular sausages instead of battered sausages and they just laughed at the customer and made him feel stupid. NOT IMPRESSED!

Nasty service

Getting lunchtime special and the lady put mushy peas over the chips. I said if they could be in a carton as my son won't eat them like this. Lady began shouting at me and an angry man came from the back complaining about waste because of my request. Each time I bought these specials they put beans or peas in a carton and now they shouted at me because they decided to pour mushy peas over the chips without asking. We're talking less than £2 worth of chips and peas over a botched order. I have shopped there for more than 20 years but after the threatening behaviour of these people I shall take my business elsewhere. I never got such attitude in McDonald's or any other takeaway....
