Ask me 6mth ago, totally different....ask me now, based on this visit; Do not recommend this place at all! Sat outside, was really busy. Moved piles of dirty cups to sit; these weren't cleared until 5min after we left. Visit lasted 40min after queuing; 30 of which was waiting for ordered drinks to arrive! (Average black filter coffees, nothing fancy for the time it took).
Bought pastries and cake in line and ordered drinks, which came after 30mins and after chasing up whereabouts! Cake was sold without crockery supplied to eat it, had to wait 5 minutes in the queue again to ask: a fork had to be washed and handed over.
Toilet is 1x disabled toilet in front of where people queue, so when it's busy and crowded, it's hard to get in. There was no toilet paper and it was smelly like unwashed, unsanitised smelly, not just been used smelly. It needed a good bleach down. Fidmr a food establishment with a door which opens forward-facing the kitchen and serving area, it's really poor.
Pastries, we've had before, so it was a return visit for a sweet treat; soggy, greasy tart pastry this time (not like our last visit visit just over 6 months ago). Won't be making a special trip out again, they're nicer...
Read moreI already had the original custard Pastel Del Nata from a supermarket once, (it was cold, not warm / hot) but never from an actual Portuguese Patisserie so I knew I had to try one but with a chocolate addition. This one was also cold but in hindsight, I didn’t think I could reheat it so it would be warm instead.
One drink came with very little liquid so finished it in one sip? I’m not sure if it was supposed to be like that? (I think it was the Bica? Someone please correct me if I am wrong.)
I was not a fan of the Jesuita because I don’t like cinnamon but that’s not their fault. I loved the Galao and the Brasileiro though.
This is not supposed to be a negative review as I hate negativity, more like a neutral opinion review.
Overall, I’ve always wanted to try this place out for ages now, that’s why I ordered the food and drink that I did because it was my first time trying these items out and I’m glad I had the chance to.
I would love to visit in person one day because it’s far...
Read moreIncredibly slow service for a Friday. Was third in line and waited 15 minutes just to get two tarts. There was one person on the till doing everything, even heating/cutting/serving food. While 3 other members of staff just milled about in the back, seem to have a lack of basic hospitality skills to understand to jump onto other tasks to support a busy queue???
Finally got served when the original till person asked for support after a member of staff had just been stood behind them for the entire time pretending to use the coffee machine. Then didn’t even serve the takeout tarts with napkins….Which were then in the basement and had to wait again… come on guys really basic service skills are seriously lacking here.
The pastel de nata was also disappointing. We had one normal and one cherry. Pastry tasted greasy, the custard was mediocre and the cherry one you couldn’t even taste cherry at all? I can’t understand how when they are usually so sour!
Won’t be rushing back...
