Gosh I wish I had a place like this in my town!
Group of six of us, some from Manchester, York and Derby so we wanted somewhere in the middle, The Treehouse came up as number 1 for boardgames cafe. The BG Cafe I had been to before was in London.
The Treehouse is sooooo clean and tidy, as soon as you walk in it's just so beautiful! So much choice for board games, I love that they had recommendations on like "best for beginners" and "good game for 2 people". It's also a great system so you can return the games back yourselves.
There is a qr code on the table, this shows you the menu and also recommendations for board games for the number of players. We found this very useful.
Booking online was very simple, we didn't have to pay in advance which was great. It was £2 per person per house which we thought was a bargain considering how much choice of board games there are.
You can buy board games there was well.
You order easily at the bar and they put it on your table tab or you can pay there and then.
The only downside which is no fault of there own as it is such a busy place is that the food and drinks do not all come at the same time. My partner needs a drink to digest food so having our food out 20-30 minutes before the drinks arrived wasn't ideal, luckily I had a bottle of water on me at the time. It also meant me and my partner had finished our food way before the rest of the table even though we all ordered at the same time (the only difference was we paid ours straight away but I can't see why this would change as we were all on the same table and ordered the same time....) we will try differently next time and see if it works.
The food choices are great, lots of vegetarian and vegan options too! I had a mushroom, cheese and spinach toastie and it completely filled me up! I was really surprised. The portions for the whole table were really good. (toastie was £9.50)
Very fun atmosphere, the max you can have a table for is 6 hours which made it £12 per person - amazing!!
Toilets were also clean, with disabled toilet on the same level as the games as well.
As soon as we left we all agreed we would...
Read moreI loved this place! So did my kids.
It was our first visit. Travelling from outside the city, it was easy to find and easy to park. When we arrived we were the first there but even when almost at full capacity at the end of our visit it was still a very personal service offered by the staff and we still felt "private" on our table.
There is a vast selection of games to choose from, the staff offer suggestions for things you may like and they genuinely seem to enjoy what they do and don't hate going to work each day. For all of these reasons I would definitely be back.
My 4 star is menu based... The booking itself is inexpensive and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 hours there and would repeatedly visit throughout the school holidays despite the distance.....HOWEVER given the length of time we were there, selecting from the menu is unavoidable and in my opinion isn't pocket friendly or particularly kid friendly for that matter. Fancy crisps at £3.50, £3 for soft drinks, and a bagel with anything more than ham or cheese costing around £7.50, it soon as up.... And maybe it's just my kids but I've never known them to ask for hummus as veggies as a cheaper snack alternative!
I will say, the food is absolutely delicious and as an adult visiting I would order again but I do think the menu would benefit from a few more "kid friendly" options, a bowl of chips even and a regular...
Read moreGaming just got cultured! Having been to several Tabletop Gaming stores over the years, not to mention a myriad of cafes, I have to say that Treehouse is like nothing else out there!!!
My brother had invited one of his friends and I to check out this new type of cafe in Sheffield, and being gamers we were intrigued by the idea. After a little walk from Bramhall Lane, we managed to find this great little slice of culture down one of Sheffield's side streets! A beautifully renovated old building that has been turned into a stylish, Apple store-style venue that is welcoming and family friendly. The staff are friendly and helpful, offering support if needed and keeping clear if not.
From the tasty treats and delightful drinks to the plethora of games on offer, Treehouse is a real experience package! You can just go for a sip and snack, or stay a while and play some games with friends and/or loved ones. It's the sort of place we've all dreamt would exist, but have never been able to find!
The only improvement I could recommend is... opening more Treehouses! Sheffield is relatively close to home, but it'd be so nice to be able to pop to a more local one! Wishing them every success, in the hope they open...
