Before I start I want to highlight that our waitress, Mollie, was an absolute star. She was run off her feet but couldnât do enough for usâgenuinely the only saving grace of our visit.
Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was deeply disappointing. We came for a bottomless brunch that was supposed to start at 3:30 PM. However, due to overbooking or some other issue, we were left waiting outside for nearly 50 minutes. Our brunch didnât really begin until around 4:20, when we finally received our first drinks. When the food arrived, we were all starving and had ordered pizzas. What we were served was really not nice. I seemed undercooked and was very slimy. Maybe it was rushed to make up for lost time or made with some sort of vegan substitute, but either way, it was not good. I would have much preferred a basic supermarket pizza over what we were given. That said, we didnât complain at the time because it was our friendâs birthday and the staff already seemed overwhelmed.
Towards the end of our booking with about 30 minutes still left in our allotted time, we moved outside to finish our last round of drinks. Thatâs when a staff memberâJamie, I assume was a supervisorâapproached us. Instead of politely managing the situation, he abruptly told us to âhurry up and leave.â When we explained that our brunch had started nearly an hour late and we still had plenty of time left, he snapped, âDonât kick off with meâ. Which is ridiculous because no one had voices raised or said anything to make him say that. He continued to be really rude and arsey, the complete opposite of how he should have been after the whole experience. This interaction made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. In fact, had it not been for that exchange, I probably wouldnât even be leaving this review. But between the disorganised start, the inedible food, and then being spoken to so rudely by the manager, it was the final straw.
We then learned Lykke had hired the entire venue out for a wedding party an hour after the brunches were supposed to have finished (but we were sat an hour late). Itâs baffling that the venue would overbook brunches when they had a full wedding scheduled. Why should we have to be forced to leave early to accommodate for this businessâs bad organisation?
There was another table near us clearly going through a similar experience, so I assume we werenât the only ones feeling frustrated. We even offered to move to a far away corner because we felt bad for the bride.
In total, we spent over ÂŁ350 at this venue, and I can honestly say it wasnât worth it. The food was appalling, and Jamieâs attitude towards us completely put a dampener on my friends birthday. I wouldnât return or recommend it based on...

Recently went to Lykee for brunch. Ordered the sourdough toast with mushrooms, as I am unable to have normal bread due to intolerances. I am not from the UK, so when the food came out I didnât think anything of it and started eating.
I had about half when I thought this surely isnât sourdough but wasnât quite sure what that might look like here so asked the others at my table if they thought it was just normal bread or not. After they confirmed my suspicion, a young man came to clear plates (I had left the food on the plate) and asked if everything was alright - we highlighted that even though sourdough was ordered, we received normal bread instead, but I wasnât notified when I placed my order of any changes. He came back some time after to confirm it was normal bread and asked why I wasnât able to just normal bread as both still have gluten in them. I had to then explain that even though sourdough does not take out all the gluten it makes bread tolerable for those with non-celiac gluten sensitivities due to the fermentation process. He couldnât answer any questions so we said weâd be happy to speak to his manager.
The manger only came over to our table 10minutes after (with there only being 2 other tables occupied my educated guess would be he was trying to Google a couple things beforehand). He pulled up a chair, and unfortunately went in on the attack saying they had been very busy all day, that both the breads have gluten in them and we shouldâve let them know about any food sensitivities. He even asked why I couldnât eat it. I felt very uncomfortable but let him know itâs something my doctor and tests have proven Iâm unable to have - heâs reply was âreallyâ? I then had to explain to him also why sourdough is okay to eat and said thatâs exactly why I ordered it and I highlighted his staff did not notify me at any point that they donât have this available. Had that been the case I wouldâve ordered something else, or gone to a different restaurant.
The manager was extremely rude, unprofessional and condescending, not wanting to take any responsibility at all for his staff not notifying customers of changes in meals/also not asking about any intolerances/allergies. We expressed how itâd be important the next time this happens his staff must let the customer know of the changes, as something much much worse couldâve happened.
No care, poor hospitality and in general rude staff and manager! Not one to write long reviews, but couldnât let this one slide in case someone with an allergy or intolerance goes thinking they get what they order and end up...
Read moreFeel compelled to write after our second visit to Lykke in Sheffield. Our first visit was in October,. 2021; we popped in around 17.00 to see if we needed to make a reservation for food later that evening as were going to come back to the restaurant after a cinema trip and were told 'no'; we duly arrived back at Lykke, were asked to sit anywhere we liked. We waited ten minutes before going to the bar with our order only to be told 'oh, sorry, we've got no food.' We did wonder why we couldn't have been told that when we walked in, but chalked it off to Covid, bad luck etc and went somewhere else.
We've just been back today - walked in and were asked 'do you have a reservation?' We said no, we were after a table for two - again, we were told to sit anywhere and that 'someone will be along to take your order.' We waited fifteen minutes and no one came and so went to place our order at the bar. As I placed the food order, the bar staff told me 'oh, if you didn't make a reservation, we can't do food.' AGAIN, I asked - when you knew I didn't have a reservation, why didn't you tell me this? I asked to see the manager and was pointed in the direction of a deputy manager who told me 1) sorry, we've been busy and have to prioritise customers who've made a reservation. I asked - why weren't we told this when we came in? I was then told 2) we're not a restuarant, we're a bar - i asked; why do you have a food menu and a brunch menu if you're not serving food ? I then asked is there any real point in us ever coming back? and were told 3) well, make a reservation next time and we'll probably have food.
I must add - the bar staff and deputy manager were perfectly polite and perhaps if you're just popping in for a drink, it would be fine. But this is the second occasion where communication/service has been incredibly substandard; a simple 'are you wanting to eat?' would have saved us 15 minutes of waiting and to be then told 'well, we'll probably have food next time' just isn't good enough. We were happy to write off one bad experience as bad luck, but twice in a row is a symptom of something else and given the lack of encouragement to come back, I think we'll take the hint and try somewhere that not only has a food menu...it...
