Having eaten from this restaurant for decades I came back today looking forward to my favourite lunchtime spot when I was local but I am beyond heartbroken. The new management have taken the essence out of this beloved restaurant and think it's acceptable to advertise chicken wings and serve strip instead. When challenged this I was told its my responsibility when ordering chicken wings with bones!!!!! Is there actually any other kind. The red curry was essentially water and was missing a lot of the vegetables that belong and used to be in there. No salt was offered to the table and even checked in with us to see how our meal was after being served. Our starters also arrived after the curry and we were only then told that at lunchtime food comes out whenever it does - so you are trying to operate like wagamama now!!!! After sitting for 15 mind trying to get the attention if anyone to request our bill, the waitress decided that doing something with prawn crackers was more essential and so we gave up waiting again and went for the bill - which wasn't actually given to us and just charged. A 10% service charge was unjustified but the waitress just rolled her eyes and said pay. Never again will I return here and will also tell colleagues all in the area that the food is below standard unless you want a painful belly and multiple trips to the bathroom which all of us who went lunch experienced almost within an...
Read moreWent there for the restaurant since it was right next to my hotel.
Ordered the Bong Thai special cocktail, liked it a lot but had no idea what they put in it as ingredients weren't listed on the menu and couldn't tell from the taste, its a mystery °_° Family member ordered Strawberry Daiquiri mocktail, was also good.
Had the chicken wings to start, very crispy and crunchy batter, tender and delicious +served with sweet chilli dip. Also had some pleasant prawn crackers with same dip. Also tried some pleasant satay dip.
Had the red curry for main course-you can choose between either meat, vegetables or seafood as the main element of your dish-I chose mixed seafood. You can also choose between several different types of rice, I had coconut rice.
Red Curry was good and tasty, (Thai curry is more like a soup/stew though instead of being like a thick sauce) it was listed as spicy on the menu but tasted mild to me. Whereas a family member ordered the green curry and asked for it to be made less spicy, however upon both trying it we realised it was somehow spicier than the red curry. (Still good and fragrant though) Might have been a mix-up (°°)_/
Staff is otherwise accommodating and very friendly Also had TVs throughout dining and drinking area playing different programmes, but didn't have any...
Read moreI visited for the first time on Saturday, got there early to avoid the rush (5pm). Good parking, easy access but when I first walked in I felt like leaving and going elsewhere. The place is very run down, could do with a good refurbishment! It's an unusual concept of having a Thai restaurant within an English pub. But I had read about it online so I knew what I was going for.
There's alot of options on the menu but my family and I ordered a range of vegetarian dishes. I couldn't believe the portion sizes were so small. Som tum salad was on a tiny plate for £7. Thai green curry was very watery and only had peppers in (no other veg or tofu) again £8. Veg tampura was too oily. Panang was again watery. The nicest dish we had was Pad Thai. Overall everything was small and expensive. We left dissatisfied, which I wouldn't have minded had it been cheap and cheerful.
We ordered NO drinks, just tap water yet still the bill came over £40 for three people. There's also no music or ambience, just felt like we were in a dark place.
The servers however are very sweet and kind, so for that reason we didn't...
