12 years ago I highly recommend visiting to Shelford Deli, it was a really small shop with only about 4 people can fit in it, with big queues waiting outside for the delicious sandwiches. they would make them on the spot and will fill them soo much it would be hard to eat from. Loved visiting here on lunch breaks during the week.
However the shop expanded and they fitted a new extension to the building, a good size restaurant with great choices on the menu, its a great idea, then for some reason its just gone down hill, the great choices on the menus disappeared the restaurant had to close due to COVID, and since it has lost its identity of what it used to be, don't get me wrong I am sure they had to change and adapt to the times. but there are more affordable options and other locations in Shelford where you can get some great sandwiches (Don't get me wrong again but the sandwiches 12 years ago were the best...
Read moreCute place, but the coffee is sub par and the deli selection is nice but not exceptional. Overall 4 star, but staff attitude makes it a 2 star experience: when I provided constructive feedback about the coffee, making it absolutely clear that I was not requesting a refund but just feeding back my impressions, the last thing a good place should do is argue with the customer that they are wrong and that the coffee is perfect. The problem here is one of barista training rather than coffee quality: they use Monmouth coffee, one of England’s best and most experienced coffee roasters, but a combination of excessive dosing and using the coffee too soon after roast means that the cup profile has roast notes and unpleasant burnt aromas. Just to end on a good note: the pan con tomates...
Read moreUsed to love this place but popped by last week when I was back in the area and was disappointed. Waited (despite there being no-one else at either of the counters) to be told they couldn’t make me a takeaway coffee in my keep cup as they couldn’t use or rinse previously used cups for “health & safety” reasons. Absolute nonsense and a travesty for sustainability. Won’t be going back. Especially as lots more lovely coffee places and delis have sprung up it the area. See reviews for Haslingfield ones. Two stars given out of nostalgia, because I know how hard it is to make a deli/cafe work in this economy and because to be fair I didn’t get to try the...
