This is a high turnover asset. Every day from 7am the towns drinkers & alcoholics come for their 99p a pint beers & lagers. They don't need food, but if they did, you can have breakfast until 1130am for just £3.69 - I still don't know how they can do it!
Detach yourself from that sleazy World and you emerge into a pub that's a friendly meeting place, populated with happy friends meeting up for a few bevvies and a bite to eat in an establishment without the banal interference from Sky Sports, arrays of fruit machines (there is one though), or loud music being served by pleasant bar staff - it's definitely a winning formula replicated across the entire chain.
However Mr Wetherspoon, this place, goldmine as it is, needs to close & be refurbished. It's beginning to look rough. This, otherwise attractive, has certainly lost its kerb appeal.
This particular jewel in your crown is without doubt the centre of Swadlincotes universe. And without it - Swadlincote Town Centre would immediately fall flat on its face - I would happily wager that the Sir Nigel Gresley is THE most successful enterprise in Swadlincote ... so put a little something...
Read moreIts a shame, because the staff are lovely and couldn't be friendlier on the front of house. But there's a breakdown in communication between front of house and the quality of the food. Sent them back and second the wrap, the chicken was still cold but the plate was boiling... Was offered refund but heard no more about it and now one of us has woken up with suspected food poisoning. It shouldn't have to be explained to those working in a kitchen you can't send out cold , under cooked chicken. I know its supposed to be cheap and cheerful but you still are paying for food you expect to be cooked properly. Have forwarded on an email about this issue also. Hoping something can be done to prevent it...

(I asked for a rare steak and I'd rather have been told the truth that the slice of steak is as "thin as bacon" and comes 'as is' rather than receiving what looked like last the petrified remains of last Christmases abandoned gingerbread house.....sigh, I was so excited for it too. No matter.
Buttermilk chicken burger is delicious though. Deffo have that, I've...
