It was our second visit to the Spalding restaurant after being introduced by friends approx 8 weeks earlier which was a very pleasant evening, this visit though was a very different experience. Drinks orders were taken by young staff who do not know what the different wines are and state the 'thing you ordered is only in a bottle not a glass'. We told him he was pointing at the wrong wine. They also forgot a beer order. The chef arrived and said his hello's to everyone and then went to the bar to hand his cigarettes to the young staff who were huddled together behind the bar. We noticed then that the wall behind the chef including the painting is smothered with old oil marks from the ceiling to floor, it looks terrible and fishy. We had our food which was very good I must say. We ordered additional beers which was again done wrong. We requested the bill and a young girl couldn't operate the card machine and pushed the machine towards us just saying 'here stick your card in'. My wife was fuming. The ladies went to the bathroom and the was no tissue nor hand towels available and the place was not busy for a Saturday night. So for 4 people receiving a bill for over £140 and having to endure terrible untrained service from young kids in a dirty restaurant is unacceptable. It is obvious that the place needs a thorough clean and rethink. It is obvious that the company employs cheap and staff for maximizing profit. Service counts for nothing at Katana Spalding but profit does. We will not be...
Read moreWe visited on a Sunday evening as a family. Upon arrival whilst it wasn’t the busiest, there were a few groups in.
We were soon seated and some miso soup arrived at our table almost straight away. Over time we placed our order for drinks (beer, wine and a coke) then starters and mains.
I am unsure if they were short staffed on the night but on a couple of occasions as things arrived, there was an apology for any delay. To be honest, I didn’t think there was a delay but perhaps the owners have particularly high standards :)
So whilst we didn’t sit at the Teppanyaki table where the chef cooks your food in front of you whilst having a load of fun, we were able to see the theatre unfolding. If you are with a large group, you will enjoy sitting there.
So out starters were delicate and full of flavour. Our mains were hearty, plentiful and really tasty and the drinks kept flowing.
At the end the bill was very reasonable (2 rounds of drinks, 3 starters and 3 mains for less than £70) and we left feeling we had received good service and great food.
We will...
Read moreThis place was absolutely incredible. Booked to take my Wife for her 40th Birthday as she loves sushi and had been wanting to try here for a long time. The whole experience, from booking right through to payment was brilliant. Upon arrival we were greeted by the ever so friendly staff and seated at our Chef's teppanyaki table. We were explained about some of the dishes we werent so sure about and made our choices. Then arrived our Chef for the night "Mr Miagi" (Neil). He immediately acknowledge it was my Wife's birthday and bought her a cocktail on him, sang Happy Birthday to her and while beginning the initial cooking even got her behind the grill to have a go herself. The food he prepared for us all was up there with some of the best ever. Thank you to all the staff and especially Neil for making my Wife's 40th so...
