China Inn — Restaurant in South Kesteven

We’ve visited this restaurant several times over the years and usually enjoyed it, but after today’s experience, we won’t be coming back or recommending.

While we were still eating, towards the end of our meal, a waitress came over and loudly warned us that we’d be charged for food waste because a small amount was left on a few plates. To be clear, it was half a chicken skewer, two small pieces of chicken in a curry, and a handful of noodles. Nothing excessive at all, especially considering we were with children.

I calmly told her we were still eating and will finish our food, but she told us not to worry and she will let us off this time round and began clearing plates that we hadn’t finished. We had planned to order desserts. It was totally unnecessary, embarrassing, and completely ruined the atmosphere. The restaurant wasn’t busy whatsoever. There were plenty of empty tables. There was no need to make a scene.

Another staff member did apologise afterwards, but the damage was done. We paid the bill and left without ordering dessert or tipping. We won’t...

This was an absolutely dreadful dining experience from start to finish. Both chicken dishes we ordered were completely tasteless and consisted mostly of small, dry, battered scraps with barely any meat inside. Everything was swimming in oil and felt greasy and unpleasant to eat.

We sent our food back several times, but when the dishes finally came out for the last time, there was still no improvement whatsoever. I told the staff to take them back and not return them, and asked for both dishes to be removed from the bill. I was told they would be — but when I went to pay, I had to embarrass myself at the till asking again for them to be taken off, only to be met with rudeness and comments that I “had no taste.”

To make matters worse, my son was unwell shortly after we got home. Overall, the quality of the food, the attitude of the staff, and the lack of basic customer care were completely unacceptable. I would strongly advise avoiding this restaurant altogether.

Used to dine here before it changed owners and never had any issues.....

Absolutely great. Welcoming staff, clean and airy dining area, spotless loos and warm, friendly atmosphere. While this is not the largest of establishments it is in my opinion arguably the 'best' Chinese restaurant/take away in or around Grantham. Our regular 'go to' for Chinese had recently been sold and had new owners and our last visit was definitely our last visit. This little gem on Avenue Road, just off the High Street will now be one of our two 'go to establishments, the other being Rose Orchard Collingham (we are in Newark on Trent) Food was served promptly (which worried me slightly) but it was of the highest standard. Served on plates on food warmers and onto dining plates that had also been pre warmed. Food was very well presented, sufficient amount for 2 people and perfectly seasoned to our taste. Perfectly cooked and without a hint of greasiness! We managed to consume at least 99% of what was served just a few straggler bits left on the serving plates :-) Everything very highly...
