Cucina Unica — Restaurant in South Staffordshire

Made a booking for a couple of days before going. We tried to book on the day, but fully booked. There is parking, which gives 2.5hrs free. Remember to put your number plate in the machine when you enter the restaurant. No tells you that.

We were greeted by a staff member, they appear to have a lot of waitresses on that particular evening. We both ordered prawns for a starter. The starter plates were too small for the food we ordered. They came in shells, it doesn't state that on the menu, otherwise I wouldn't have ordered them. Luckily by the time they were cooked a couple of them came out of the shells. No complaints it was cooked well and flavoured with spices. It came with sourdough bread, which helped mop up the sauce. Definitely 5 ⭐ for the prawns except the shell.

I had cranberry juice, my partner had a non alcoholic beer, which came with a cold glass. That's how it should be served.

I had the breadcrumb chicken with Parma ham and cheese with 🍟 fries. My partner had the sea bass with asparagus with lemon sauce, with saute potatoes. My chicken was a little dry, it needed some sauce. The sea bass was lacking slightly in flavour compared to the prawns.

The food came hot and on hot plates. The service was quick and the staff were polite and if we asked a question regarding the menu, they would find out for us.

It's quite small inside, compact and bijou, I would say!

Definitely will be going back, the table next to us had pizzas, they are made fresh in a pizza oven they looked nice.

Been back a few times for pizza. We had dessert as per photos. Both were very nice, but too much chocolate on the profiteroles and larger dessert spoon or forks required. The spoons...

Weeks ago, I visited the restaurant in person to make a booking for 28 people. This was for a 60th birthday family celebration on Easter Sunday. We specifically chose a time that we were told best suited the restaurant. On the strength of the booking, family members who were travelling from various parts of the country made hotel reservations for the evening, etc. 4 weeks before the event, I received a call and was told that the owner had “decided not to open” on the date of the booking and that my reservation was cancelled. I explained the position, to no avail whatsoever. How on earth does he expect me to make a reservation for a table of this size elsewhere at such short notice for Easter Sunday? They have ruined carefully made plans (and a lot of expense) without a care in the world and have left me scrabbling around trying to find somewhere else to accommodate us, which is proving impossible. I don’t think I have ever come across worst customer service in all my years. We have been regulars at this restaurant, as have some of my family members who live locally. I will never set foot in there again, nor recommend it to anyone else. This is an abysmal way to treat previously loyal customers and tells me everything I need to know about their complete lack of respect or empathy for their customers. Shameful.

Update: I sent an email to the restaurant to express my dissatisfaction. They chose not to engage at all but to completely ignore me! The worst customer service I have come across...

Poor meal tonight, ordered drinks one of which was a mojito. When it arrived it tasted just of lime, mentioned this to staff and they said they would replace it, I was then given the same drink they took but with extra soda so it still just tasted of lime but slightly watered down. I ordered the pasta Arrabbiata which when it arrived tasted only of chilli and the pasta was extremely overcooked so just turned to mush. We also had the mushroom risotto which unfortunately contained dried mushrooms which hadn’t been rehydrated long enough so we couldn’t actually bite them as they were so hard. The rest of the food was mediocre at best could have reheated a frozen meal for the same experience for far cheaper.

The service unfortunately was also poor, after asking for the replacement mojito to be swapped with a lemonade nothing was brought, then after the meals were brought over no one came back to check if everything was ok as is normally the case at restaurants, the servers were too busy chatting with each other rather than waiting tables.

Overall very over priced for poor quality food and service. The only positive is they didn’t charge for the 2 meals...
