We went as a medium sized group. Reserved in advance and was told that there was a time restriction on how long we could have the table despite that we decided to go. The staff took our starter order and we couldn't get a hold of them again until after the starters arrived. The starters were more salad than the actual item. The mains were individual portion sizes so needed to order more again couldn't get hold of the staff again until the manager came to check on us. The food for the most part was bland by Indian standards across both veg and non- veg options. The duck was good but not sure if that was after I told the staff to make it really hot. After we complained about 2 dishes the manager put in effort to make another dish complimentary which was a nice gesture although it was a shame that the dish didn't delivery as expected. I've given an extra star for the gesture. The restaurant is quick to promote reviews from famous visitors Tom Cruise and Jay Sean, I'm sure they received the same level of service.

I can't believe I've not reviewed Veer Dhara before😬, but St Albans is the ( lads weekend which has been a thing for 35+ years ) we're all pushing late middle age now , but we're all men so we NEVER grow up we just get older. 🤪. Since Tom Cruise ate at Veer Dhara, they have capitalised on the fame and even have a selection of Tom's choices. The restaurant relocated and grew in covers. Good luck to them. However, this restaurant was brilliant before Tom and continues to be the best end to a perfect night out in one of the most historic and beautiful towns/cities, etc, in England. I used to live in England, and for me, it's York , St Albans, and Canterbury, then Rochester . All ridiculously expensive, but if you want the history, you gotta take a kick in the wallet or go to Disney for fibreglass castles and tourist TOSH. TBH, I think Tom just made a restaurant that's always been Epic, known to a wider audience and I just can't get s keema Nan where I live now, so its worth the flights/ car journey.

I very much enjoy this restaurant, I really love spicy food, this is why I recommend you try the chicken korma. always order this with 1 poppadum and plain rice. The service is great, the staff always insist I try the chutney with my 1 poppadum but I like to keep it plain, The drinks selection looks appealing but I just stick to tap water as im always on a budget. I recommend you try the tap water as its always served in a delightful small cup with a cube of ice, this way it looks like im having one of those posh cocktails. But im not because I don’t drink alcohol, as it makes me all giddy, so I stick to the tap water. i get full quick so my left over i bring home, a delightful treat to microwave for the following morning

Veer Shara: An Unrivaled Taste of Authentic Punjabi Cuisine in Saint Albans

If you're a true lover of authentic Punjabi cuisine and find yourself in or around Saint Albans, look no further than Veer dhara. This hidden gem offers an extraordinary dining experience, bringing the rich, vibrant flavors of Punjab to life with every dish. As someone who’s had the privilege of dining here, I can confidently say that Veer Shara stands out not only for its exceptional food but also for its warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere.

From the moment you step inside, the welcoming ambiance sets the tone for an unforgettable meal. The restaurant effortlessly blends traditional Punjabi charm with a modern, sleek design. The soft lighting, comfortable seating, and attention to detail in the dĆ©cor create an inviting environment that makes you feel at home instantly — perfect for everything from casual meals to special celebrations.

The heart of Veer dhara lies in its menu, which showcases the very best of Punjabi cuisine. The dishes are expertly crafted, utilizing only the freshest ingredients and time-honored techniques. Whether you're indulging in an old favorite or venturing into new territory, every bite offers a new layer of flavor that transports you straight to the heart of Punjab.

To begin your meal, the Samosas at Veer Shara are a must-try. Golden and crispy on the outside with a spiced potato filling that is perfectly balanced, they set the stage for the feast to come. The Paneer Tikka is another standout appetizer, with the paneer grilled to perfection, lightly charred and infused with a smoky flavor that blends beautifully with the delicate spice marinade.

For mains, the Butter Chicken is nothing short of sensational. The tender, juicy chicken is enveloped in a rich, creamy tomato-based gravy that is indulgently spiced and utterly delicious. The Lamb Rogan Josh, another signature dish, showcases the depth of Punjabi cooking, with tender lamb slow-cooked in a blend of aromatic spices, resulting in a comforting, hearty dish that is both flavorful and satisfying.

No meal at Veer Dhara is complete without their Aloo Paratha and Garlic Naan — freshly baked and served hot, these bread options are the perfect accompaniment to soak up the delicious curries and gravies. And, for those who love a bit of heat, the Chana Masala offers the perfect combination of spice, texture, and flavor, making it an ideal choice for vegetarians.

The dessert options are equally impressive, and the Gulab Jamun is a sweet, melt-in-your-mouth treat, drenched in syrup and beautifully spiced. The Kheer, a traditional rice pudding, is a great way to end your meal on a light, sweet note, leaving you completely satisfied.

What truly elevates the experience at Veer Shara is the impeccable service. The staff is attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful recommendations and making sure that each guest feels well taken care of. Whether it’s providing the perfect wine pairing or adjusting the spice levels to suit your preferences, the staff goes above and beyond to ensure your dining experience is exceptional.

Another aspect that sets Veer dhara apart is their commitment to quality and authenticity. The dishes here are a genuine reflection of Punjabi culinary traditions, with flavors and techniques passed down through generations. This restaurant prides itself on delivering an authentic experience, and it shows in every dish that is served.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, Veer Shara consistently delivers an extraordinary dining experience. It’s a place where the flavors of Punjab come to life in every bite, and where you can enjoy the very best of Indian cuisine in a setting that’s as welcoming as it is elegant.

In conclusion, Veer Dhara is undoubtedly one of the finest places to enjoy authentic Punjabi cuisine in Saint Albans. With its exceptional food, top-notch service, and warm, inviting atmosphere, it’s clear why this restaurant is rapidly becoming a...

June 2023: Underwhelming

A trip back to St Albans and therefore we were really looking forward to a curry at Veer Dhara One.

Sad to say, we were very disappointed with the food this time. Maybe the chef we had last time was off, maybe it was because we turned up at 10.20, and we were met with a greeting of "We're closing at 11pm", I'm not sure but neither of these should have made a difference, we were still customers. I had a lamb pasanda which was so yellow in colour it almost was green. The taste was pretty bland, I've had significantly better from supermarkets ā˜¹ļø. The other 3 mains my group had weren't much better, and this is the same group of friends who I went with last time.

After our frosty welcome, and speed ordering (fair enough), the waiters didn't get any happier with, or friendlier towards, us. It was obvious they wanted us to leave, despite other customers still eating.

The atmosphere, like last time, was lacking. Just 2 or 3 other tables were in use when we arrived.

My previous 5 star review has therefore been amended, The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because it was so good on the previous occasions. If my score were just based on last night then it would be 1* overall and also for each aspect.

More importantly though, I'm not sure I want to return to see if it improves, I'm certainly not going to make it my restaurant of choice next time we are in the city. I'll be interested to see if they respond to this review too.

August 2022: AMAZING FOOD šŸ˜€

I've been to the Veer Dhara One twice now with different groups of friends. All of them said it's the best Indian restaurant in the city and I completely agree, the food is stunning and totally worth the little bit extra.

The service is friendly but not imposing or distracting. I hope this review encourages you to book a table. My only slight negative is that it has lacked a little atmosphere on both occasions as it's been nowhere near full. I know I'd also complain if it was too full so I guess I'm being a bit of a Goldilocks. Certainly it was lovely being able to converse without shouting to...

Its not often that I go out to indian restaurants since I find most places tend to use excessive oil and in some a format of hydrogenated oil in their foods.

It was therefore refreshing to come to Veer Dhara and immediately be looked after, find ambience well maintained, well attending staff and finally, a difference in the food.

The salads were light and fresh and the waiter taking our order was well informed and helped my friends and I pick a few items.

We decided to order something other than the usual suspects, instead of chilli paneer we picked sweet honey chilli cauliflower and we preferred salads and we added the vegetarian haara Bhara kebaab ...these came fairly quick and both dishes tasted great on the mains we again decided to go different again and ordered MIRCH AUR BAIGAN KA SALAN (Chillies and aubergines, stir-fried South Indian-style, in a roasted coconut, sesame seed, peanut and tamarind sauce.), rice and the black lentil daal makhani and butter naans...unusual.butnthe naans were really fresh straight out of the clay ovens.

The portions were large and the waiter suggested half portions in many of the dishes and we were glade because we could not finish those between the two, however I will add that we are not big eaters so this was perfect the restaurant does get full and now I know why.....the food is good..the ambience is great the service is good as well.

So why did I not give 5 stars?

One simple reason; Veer Dhara does not have any parking of its own therefore you need to look around for parking on side streets and that was a bit of pain. I suggest you make bookings in advance rather than randomly turning up...

It's a place one should try out...summary good food good ambience great service...no.parking on the premises... I can't wait to go there again....now that...
