Cosy pub with great atmosphere and decor. Always often quite busy, popular - patronised by a wide variety of people - from hipsters to business types, rarely any children eating here but I think they're allowed. Wide variety of great food and drink, not cheap but worth it. Friendly staff.
Accessible toilet is often locked, and takes a Radar key, (they keep one behind the bar). Overall not particularly easy to get around using a wheelchair in here, as it is a small historic building with a lot of seating, but it is possible to manage and people are usually happy to move to let wheelchair users get around the place.
Regular live music, including an open mic night and bands, often blues, alt/indie, contemporary folk style. Good music also played over the speakers the rest of the time, but it's not too loud, so you can comfortably chat.
Newspapers are on the bar for anyone to read. No outdoor area, smokers and vapers go outside the front of the building, where there is a street that is quiet and basically pedestrianised.

Read moreThe Market Vaults is exactly what a proper pub should be. Cosy when you need a quiet pint, lively when the night picks up, and always full of good people. Matt and Sandra, the owners, are honestly the heart of the place... warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring. Once they get to know you, they don’t just remember your drink, they remember you. They make you feel part of the Vaults family with little inside jokes and those thoughtful touches that make all the difference.
There’s always something going on. Quiz nights, open mic nights, live music, and even brilliant offers like 40% off premium lagers between 8–10pm at the weekend. The jukebox is a classic touch too, adding to that proper traditional pub vibe that’s so hard to find these days.
The locals I’ve met are some of the friendliest around, and the atmosphere always feels safe and welcoming. To top it off, it’s dog-friendly. So even your four-legged mates get looked after.

Read moreVisited for the first time on Friday 31 August 2018 , early in the evening. The Market Vaults is tucked in just off the left hand corner of the market Square in Stafford. The pub looks very nice from the outside but it feels very dark on the inside. As you enter The Market Vaults your are faced with a central bar area with an 'L' shaped room with a number of real ale handpulls on the bar. The Market Vaults had piped music which did not help with the atmosphere.
There are further room spaces to the right and behind of the bar which are set up for food service. There are menus for the basic simple food on these tables which appear to be mainly burger type meals with some vegetarian options .
We had an ok drink of Hobgoblin beer but it was very...
