I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Shrewsbury Arms in Stafford, and I must say, the experience was truly delightful! Having been a fan of this historic pub for years, I was excited to see the results of their recent refurbishment, and it certainly did not disappoint.
The first thing that caught my eye was the tasteful and modern upgrade to the interior. The refurb perfectly balances contemporary design with the traditional charm that the Shrewsbury Arms is known for. The new interior invites warmth and comfort, making it a perfect spot for both locals and visitors to unwind.
One of the standout features of The Shrewsbury Arms is their impressive selection of Black Country Ales. It's clear that they take great pride in offering a range of quality, locally brewed beers. I personally tried their Oakham Ale, and it was exceptional—it captured the rich flavors that theses English Ales are renowned for. The staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their offerings, providing excellent recommendations based on my preferences.
Overall, The Shrewsbury Arms, with its mix of classic allure and contemporary updates, continues to be a gem in Stafford. If you haven't visited since the refurb, or if you're new in town, I highly recommend stopping by. Whether for the fantastic ales, the cozy atmosphere, or the welcoming staff, you'll surely have a memorable time.
Cheers to The Shrewsbury Arms for preserving its storied legacy while embracing...

Service was slow, even though there was hardly anyone in there. When I ordered my drinks, a round for my partner and I that hardly ever come to much more than £7.00 anywhere else we frequent. I was shocked when told it was £10.30 for one pint of lager and a small single glass bottle of Chardonnay. That's the price we expect for a large glass of wine in a town centre pub.
No atmosphere in the pub at all, no pleasantries from the bar staff. Even the customers looked glum.
Then visited the bathroom, which could've done with a clean. As for the decor... The latrines felt like I stepped back in time to a lavratory not out of place in 1940's Kings Cross Station.
Left here and went straight to the Lamb Inn. Ordered the same round that only came to £7.05. Staff was friendly and got smiled at and greeted by happy customers. What...

The place looks great in comparison to the old days, definitely had a well needed face-lift! There is still only 2 ladies loo's though and it's so cramped. The staff seemed to have little experience, the bar man went off to get me an item from somewhere when they already had some in the fridge.. resulting in a warm drink. Where we were sat in the function area, we had to keep moving to allow people through the door and there wasn't anywhere else to sit as it just wasn't big enough. To be fair, it wasn't just their fault as there was obviously a lot of guests and they had food and balloons etc about limiting the space. The seating areas in the bar were definitely more roomy and the outside...
