Marquis of Granby — Restaurant in Stevenage

The Granby is the closest pub to my house and I’ve been there every time the management has changed. Since we saw the management had changed again decided to give it a go again hoping it would be better this time. We went for lunch. Two of us ordered our food separately. One ordered a sharing platter and a side of fries which they didn’t have so we had to order chips instead and the other ordered a main meal. The sharing platter and chips came out first and we waited and waited for the main to come out with it. After ten minutes we went up to ask about it and they said they assumed the main was to come out after the platter. Did they think four of us were going to share the platter and then the main? They told us it would be out in 2 minutes. 5 minutes later still no main. Asked again told 3 minutes. 5 more minutes passed so we cancelled it and left. They tried to double charge us saying the card payment didn’t go through when it had. And there was hair in our food which we didn’t bother to complain about due to the poor service we had already received. They had two people working one at the bar and one cooking. The “cook” wasn’t even wearing the right attire for cooking probably explaining why there was hair in the food. Safe to say we won’t be going...

Meet up with my family once a month. The first two times the food and service was good. Last time (Sunday just gone). We had terrible service. There were four couples and each couple ordered their meals, one after the other. The first three couples meals came out one after the other, no problem. However, our meals took 45 minutes to come out. My husband had ordered the mixed grill. We were told there would be a delay as they had to defrost something? After speaking to a member of staff, who was sitting at the bar chatting, 40 minutes later, asking where our meals were, her response was “oh haven’t you had them yet”. They finally came out, but they gave me the wrong roast. But the time the correct meal came out I was too annoyed to eat it. I asked for a refund, and the same member of staff said “I’ll refund yours but not the other one! There was no real apology. Just disgruntled members of staff as I dared to complain. Maybe if they had offered a drink or something to show good will, then that may have diffused the situation. Won’t be going back...

All I can say on behalf of myself and my brother is thank you to you and your amazing staff for supporting us with our mums Wake on 26th November 2024. The staff are so warm, welcoming and happy to help in anyway they can. From booking through to the day communication was spot on. The food was incredible and everyone who attended had full plates and more, there was just a little left over and we were given boxes to take this home, much to the delight of my brother, cousin and friends 🧡 The Marquis of Granby is in a great location with great facilities, it offers fantastic quality food freshly prepared and amazing value, I would highly recommend coming here whether for food, drink or an event.
