Awful. I've lived in Cheadle all my life and have visited The Ashlea for as long as I can remember. The food has had its ups and downs but last nights affair has to be the lowest point ever. I ordered mushroom and stilton to start with. The muffin it was on hadn't been toasted so it was just all soggy with the sauce. There was no side salad, it was the barest plate I have ever seen. It looked and tasted dreadful. My wife had the pate which was a thin slice of pate with a piece of normal toast cut in half with a couple of salad leaves on the side and a small dish of chutney which I'm sure was just Branston pickle. Both dishes looked like a complete joke, you just felt like you had been robbed. I had the burger for main which was pretty good and so were the chips but there were no onion rings as stated and that was it, chips and burger. Nothing else. Again, you felt done over. My wife had the veg burger which was alright but again, just chips and burger, nothing else. I know a side salad on the plate isn't to everybody's taste but at least you feel you're getting your moneys worth. The plates we were served felt like a complete con. The pub itself is lovely and so was the girl serving, the food however is a complete disgrace. Maybe the kitchen staff have gotten a bit lazy or maybe they think they can get away with it but I won't be going back. Not usually a reviewer type of person but I had to with this one. God knows what their Xmas dinner will be...
Read moreThe last time I visited The Ashley in Cheadle was in August/September 2020 (when we'd come out of lock-down). I'd gone with a friend for drink, light lunch & a catch up & it was an absolute let down & was poor in every aspect from having to wait ages to order drinks (even though it wasn't busy at all) to the quality of the food. The Ashley was in the past yrs a great place to go for drinks and a meal but overall the last few years its gone significantly down hill in every way and the prices have increased considerably for even the bog standard basic menu. My last visit was the worst, I had ordered Calamari & my friend ordered butter-milk chicken sandwich. It took just over 45mins to arrive (not many customers there) & there were 3 small pieces of over cooked, rock hard Calamari with a side salad of brown whilted lettuce, I sent it back & the butter milk chicken was also over cooked. My advice is definitely don't go, it's sad because I believe in supporting very local businesses & think it's something we all need to do but I won't be going anywhere near here...
Read moreHad booked a table for my son and I Sunday lunchtime. Staff were lovely and delivered our drinks while we perused the menu. We ordered the steak and ale pie from the main menu and wild boar burger from the specials menu. Food was fabulous and plenty of it. When ready to leave we went to the bar to pay. As I have mobility issues and cannot stand for very long I paid and left without checking my receipt. When we arrived home I checked the receipt and found that we were charged £4.10 each for the cokes, absolutely scandalous, and for the food I was charged for the pie and a sea trout. No mention of sea trout on the menu and it was definitely not one of our meals. This added around £2 to the bill. Ok, my fault for not checking before we left but how can you be charged for something not on the menu? It's a lovely place to eat with lots of different areas to sit and as I said the food was excellent. However, this was our first and probably last time we will visit as, like most people, I don't like to feel that I've been ripped off especially as the cost of living...
