I have never left a negative review for an eatery. However, memories of my experience here 6 months ago still really upsets me, which is why I finally decided to leave a review.
I came here after an awful day attending a family funeral. I was solo parenting my newborn and 2 year old as my husband got shipped off abroad for a work emergency.
My card wasn't working, and in the daze of the funeral I forgot to bring a spare. I apologised and explained about the awful day we were having, and offered to leave my personal details and return the next day to pay. Unfortunately, I was then treated with suspicion and made to feel like a criminal and was demanded to show proof of identity like a passport. I was in tears in front of other customers and my children. It was only after my daughter started crying that we were allowed to leave.
When I returned the next day, I was told that they thought I was scamming them (for1 pizza and 1 non alcoholic beer).
It saddens me that our society has lost compassion and trust, and we treat each other with suspicion instead of sympathy in...
Read moreWe dropped in to the Black Spot Pizza on an evening it wasn't scheduled to be open just before Xmas, and were warmly welcomed by the owner, Ian. Initial misgivings about lack of atmosphere proved entirely unfounded as we had the benefit of Ian to ourselves, and were able to watch as he expertly mixed our cocktails. VERY expertly - he is an award winner!
Ian then baked our pizzas from a menu which also included a wide range of Vegan and Vegetarian choices and fascinated us with the extent and depth of knowledge of all aspects of his eating and drinking repertoire.
Diana pronounced hers "the best pizza she'd ever eaten" and moved on to red wine - again with Ian's expert advice - while I had two more cocktails!
We can recommend the Black Spot most highly, and also Ian's personal contribution to the evening which was just the right balance of friendliness and expertise. We're not local, but have already scheduled our return visit!
Thank you -...
Read moreEnjoyed the meal. Only went as had been told it had vegan options, even though that's not clear on the menu.
I found the menu and ordering stressful as you have to work it all out yourself. We (2 vegans) were told at the restaurant that some things can be made vegan, but we need to work out the menu and what swaps we want.
There's option to pay for vegan cheese and add veggie toppings but no list of what they are, he told us we had to read all the other pizzas to see what they had and then add them onto a pizza. Would be nice to not have to work when going out for a meal, it isn't somewhere I'd take a group of vegan friends. Just a few purpose vegan options, a list of veggies that can be added. Misleading that the website says 50% of the menu can be vegan, most pizza have meat on.
Took away from the experience of going out for a meal together. What we had was nice, would recommend the olives and rosemary...
