Went in alone for a quick lunch. Immediately had my seat taken by a bunch of guys who walked in front of me and put their coats down on the table I was at just as I was about to take mine off. Had to walk up and collect my own menu, then waited 15 mins for a cheesecake that requires no preparation at all and is right next to the counter while the staff continued to take orders from seemingly more deserving people (I only got it after asking the staff how long it was going to be). To top it off the owner couldn’t even be bothered to ask how my experience had been despite asking others who were ahead of me in the queue.
I’ve been here various times in the past and enjoyed the food and setting but today has made it clear that I’m not welcome here any more, so I’ll go and spend my time and money at one of the many cafes around such as Rosies, Rhode Island and SY2 who are very welcoming and appreciate...
Read moreMy mum and I had breakfast here outside in the little terrace. She had left of the sugar bags in her food. She ate a bit of it without realising , she chocked with it and had to spit it out. Then she saw more on her plate. We let a waiter know what happened and she said that we will not be charged for it. The food was good but the service was terrible. When we spoke to the manager, she asked us about it and said she will charge £4.95 for that specific dish instead of the full amount. She makes us a discount when we were told would not be charged for it at all and it seemed as if she didn’t believe what we were saying. She never apologised during our conversation and her whole attitude was inappropriate, no apologies and wanting to say that her kitchen is super clean and we can see it if we want. We will never come back. If anything happens they will not act...

It might seem expensive but their ingredients are expensive. Properly fresh sourdough bread and organic eggs for eg. I know of cafes in really posh London neighbourhoods where they don't even do free range eggs shockingly so it was lovely to be somewhere that really cared.
I encountered the lady on the till, the chap who seemed to be the manager and Abby our waitress. They were all working really hard but made time to stop and chat. Abby was a load of fun too.
So, thanks to all at Laco for gladdening my belly...
