Such a shame as this used to be our favourite place to go everytime we are in stockport -despite the prices being high, went in today and think it must of changed ownership ...3 staff (2 teenagers) 1 mature woman in charge who was really stressed in general and on the 2 staff about every little thing ..we go in for the peacefull atmosphere but bangin of pots bein thrown around by manager didnt help ..1 guy was in the corner near window which has 5 leather chairs -he was on his own ...i noticed 2 families come in with a buggy and had to struggle gettin settled with lack of room and in the time we were there -2 families had a look but carried on past cause its too cramped and this is due to a row of table n chairs in the middle of the floor (this shows its all about extra money rather than customer comfort )..the guy had 1 coffee then sat there for a good 30 minutes trying to do a crossword without success as he was leaning forward the whole time so he didnt even relax in 1 of the 5 comfy chairs -we noticed 1 of the staff walkin round lost with 2 paninis but didnt know who for so the manager just said stick em behind the counter and wait till someone comes and complains !!!!!! Then her boyfriend comes in sits down so the manager sits with him holding hands whilst there are 8 people waiting to be served ....go figure 😯,the place used to be so chilled with 3 staff that used to be extra smiley attentive and always ....ALWAYS said goodbye to every single person ..and once again we will never set foot in this place -we can alway pop in 1 of the many places...
Read moreA lovely building , it has been my regular for a while mainly due to the dearth of similar establishments in the urban wasteland that is Stockport . A regular feature I note is the inability to clear and clean tables promptly especially upstairs . Of course staff are too busy serving downstairs . On recent visit I felt that the prices were up and the quality/service down. It’s off my list for now …
EDIT April 2024 … well the cafe has now had a refit and reopened . It looks great . This building has great original features and lovely decor .
Also nice friendly staff .
Guys just a small but important point . Make sure coffee is served HOT . ☕️
Also make sure those cakes are wrapped or covered otherwise they start to go firm and stale .
EDIT- Much improved since it’s recent refurbishment and a lovely atmosphere .
Tips
Keep that coffee HOT Oil the hinges on the front door to stop the squeaks and fix the door closer to stop it banging closed every time someone comes in
Again .. cover /wrap those cakes .....
Read moreI have come across this cafe as a matter of coincidence and was thrilled! Very spacious, beautiful decor, free WiFi, student discount; they have it all! I was travelling for work and needed to waste an hour before my train. My battery was dead and my water bottle was empty, I managed to charge my phone and fill my bottle (including ice)! Perfect to my convenience and without asking! I didn’t order anything to eat but seems they have a good selection of cakes and pastries. The only thing I hoped would be better -sorry to say- was the coffee. It’s not bad at all; I’d say average, but then again my view is biased and I’m picky, I’m usually not happy with it in most cafes. I freshly grind my intense beans every morning at home and would say they use very mild coffee beans. Other areas to improve, is to have full fat milk, stay open a few more hours and perhaps introduce a loyalty point system. The staff are wonderful and overall this place is waaay above average for the known standard in the UK tbh. Will...
