Trying not to be too harsh as it is brand new and this visit was the first Friday of being open so may be sone teething problems. We tried Fat Louis (burger), dough boys (pizza and NOT the brilliant guys from Leeds), pie curious, and roost (chicken).
The good: Looks the part and has a really vibrant atmosphere. The bar is great, some excellent beer choices and was well staffed. Food prices are pretty reasonable and the place is dog and child friendly.
The average: Could do with a bit more seating though everyone did seem to be getting sat down it was more stressful than it needed to be. Food wasn't outstanding and the serving staff were doing their best but there just wasn't enough hands on deck for a full house.
The bad: The marketing around this has been totally misleading. I was expecting cream of the crop independent street food. In reality there is only one indy in there (Black Market Coffee) and the rest are stalls from the guy who won the contract to run the produce hall(Steve Pilling), which is really disappointing as they are not best in breed and doesnt support small businesses like I was expecting.
Food wise the portions were a bit stingy and the disorganisation meant that food was a little cold. Worst of all is that because I had bought into the myth that this was a bunch of brilliant independents the quality of the food fell well below my expectations and was exceptionally underwhelming- it is far from brilliant and it is nothing like Macki Mayor or Alti Market. However, it is still a step forward for Stockport and hopefully there will eventually be some space made for independents as it settles in.
TLDR: Nice atmosphere, helpful but overrun staff, average at best food. Very misleading marketing. Hopefully it will improve and definitely...
Read moreCame here with a few friends and we ordered from a few different vendors. The Asian one in particular was amazing. Tapas was okay but not the best. Gambas didn’t have a lot of flavour. But the reason I’m giving three stars isn’t because of the food. It’s the service. Staff just stand around like there isn’t anything to do. The table we sat at was dirty when we arrived and there was loads of staff just stood around, avoiding eye contact and floating about, so I got up to get the cleaner and cloth myself and thankfully, a nice mixed race girl who wasn’t around previously came over and wiped it for us straight away. Much better than the other dopey staff. Some cutlery was dirty too so had to ask for clean ones. Then, after all our food came our table was clearly full of empty plates and glasses. No one came to clear for ages. What if we wanted other stuff? They were just really unbothered and no proactive at all and I don’t understand why. It’s a pretty easy job for the servers, it’s not like they’re cooking the food. This place either needs better staff or more training for existing staff on hospitality and...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend are huge fans of Altrincham Market, so we couldn't wait to try the produce hall. A truly humiliating experience. After ordering a fiorentina pizza with chicken, 25 minutes later I was brought a garlic bread with chicken. Two different waiters tried to argue that this is what I had ordered, when it clearly said on my receipt what our order entailed- fair enough if it was a complicated order, but it was literally just an extra topping on a pizza off their menu (additional toppings are advertised). Not only did I not receive an apology from either, but the second waiter actually had the audacity to argue with my boyfriend, get sarcastic and storm off, laughing and pointing with his friend at the burger counter, leaving us humiliated and not even informed if this would be resolved? I then had to wait another 25 minutes for my replacement pizza, which I could hardly eat after feeling so embarrassed. Such a shame as it was actually a lovely pizza, unfortunately ruined...
