Jahmikes — Restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent

Disappointing experience. I ordered the "Stew Chicken" costing £12. My preference was for white rice rather than the traditional rice and peas but no white rice was available. Still, I desperately wanted to support a local Caribbean restaurant but it really needs to up its game if they want to survive for much longer in this very competitive environment. The presentation of the food was appalling. The microwaved food in the container was absolutely swimming in gravy and the cheap flimsy packaging, wrapped in cling film only made things worse. Taste wise I would say it was only just passable compared to any other Caribbean restaurant. Certainly nothing to write home about. Not particularly friendly or welcoming either. It was empty when I entered but one guy just stood there staring blankly into space as I approached the counter anticipating attention.The other chap who actually took the time to serve me didn't look a happy bunny either. I wasn't expecting to be treated like royalty, but service with a smile for a new and willing customer isn't too much to ask for. I'll probably give it a second chance one day but sloppy food presentation and miserable vibes mean that I won't be visiting...
