The Man In Space — Restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent

I have been a Trentham resident for 43 years and been occasionally visiting this establishment for drinks for the past 25 years, the food has never been that great but that's what you can expect for pub grub. The main reason behind the writing of this review is the attitude of a few of the staff, this is not an example of the odd occasion of staff members having a bad day, this is a handful of staff whose attitude for the past few years absolutely stinks on every occasion/visit. A certain male staff member who previously worked behind the bar but now seems to be doing waiter service is as miserable as sin, I have never seen the guy smile once, he throws the plated food down on your table, on our last visit our food arrived missing toppings for the loaded steak, they just came plain, after waiting 5 minutes and still no sign of our steak toppers I simply enquired why the steaks weren't as ordered and he looked at me as if he was planning on ways of how he could kill me, he offered no apology and walked off and I had to approach another member of staff about my concerns. A certain female staff member who works behind the bar has a similar attitude, previously whilst visiting with my parents, I made the mistake of asking what flavour j2o's they served, I was met with a snarling response as she pointed to the fridge and told me to look for myself!!! I have witnessed on several occasions this same female staff member unashamedly arguing with customers when they have confronted her about her attitude. She regularly drinks in the bar after her shift has finished and to say she is intimidating is putting it mildly, if you are not a regular it seems she thinks you should not be in there, this is also the opinion of several of my friends, she continually stares and seems to be relentlessly waiting for an opportunity to have a pop or make a rude remark. These above examples are just a few of dozens of occasions where the attitude of staff has ruined what once used to be a pleasant...

Totally dissapointed today (boxing day) not only for myself but for my parents who took twenty family members out to spend time together as a family after a trying year!! Myself was first to arrive with my husband, mother in law and children. We were not made to feel welcome and when stood for over 10 mins trying to get some assistance were spoken to extremely rudely. We had pre ordered our meals every single course was wrong, burned, ruined over cook or not fit for human consumption. My nephews mash had a crust on and could only be picked up in one lump, dad couldn't get a steak knife through his steak and when complained was told by staff to cut it from the other end of the cut of meat. Soup was cold. Burger buns were like frisbys. The staff argued with our pre order that we had photo copied before handing to them saying that we had written differently on another sheet (it was some other parties) by which point the meals that were missing hadn't arrived by the time everyone else had finished or just given up 😕 As a result of the whole experience which in the past has usually been good, my mum is truely upset and has ruined her day for the family. Service awful, food worse, staff attitude.....they didn't want...

Good points: clean, tidy, plenty of seating, comfortable, plenty of variety on the menu and at the bar.

Bad points: ordered three sizzling platters, none of them arrived sizzling! The messy Mexican chilli meal was bland and the bed of onions was slimy. There was a mix up with my order, I wanted chicken and ribs combo meal with an extra side salad. It came just the meat and salad no tomato, mushroom or chips, when I queried this and asked if I could have them the young lady told me "thats what was on the order, you'll have to order at the bar if you want chips!'" so not really excellent customer service there. If I had been paying we might have had a very different conversation about this but my mum was treating us. My meal went cold very quickly and the piece of chicken was not moist at all, mine was also on a bed of cold slimy onions. The coffee was watery and insipid.

The staff seemed to be quite disorganised and the computer system was blamed at least twice for mistakes.

I don't think we will bother again even though the ribs...
