Henley-in-Arden Ice Cream and Tea Room is an absolute joy. Heartily recommended by one and all who visit. Best selection of flavoured ice cream anywhere. Sells seasonal flavours in the winter too like the gorgeous Mince pie flavour Winter Berries Christmas Pudding. Has a good choice of Sorbets too. Definitely recommend the cooked Full English Breakfast made using meats from local farms which is also sold there as well as local honey. Their coffee is superb. A cafetiere holding three cups of coffee is only £4. And easily stretches to a few cups each. They accept card payments over £5 but best to take cash especially as the two local banks have now closed and there's only one working free issue cash machine in the immediate area. The building itself is beautiful and historic with seating available upstairs and a delightful sitting room called the Vanilla Lounge which actively encourages children to sit and read books. Books can be donated there as well as taken away for children to enjoy and from April the first to the end of October the Heritage Centre next door is open, this is a free admission although donations are gratefully received and they sell postcards and small useful souvenirs of the Village. This is an absolute must visit centre. Service is superb and staff are very friendly...
Read moreMan, I used to come here as a kid. Like 30-35 years ago and I was randomly passing it the other day, coming back from some training course. There was a parking space nearby, the sun was out (it was out, but its February, so it wasn't particularly warm) and I thought meh, why not. I had a double scoop of morello cherry and salted caramel with choc chunks and it was like being 6 years old again with my dad. Minus all the bad temper and ingrained bigotry. Now, the down side; £4.50 for a double scoop! I dont think I pay that much at the bloody cinema!! Plus, minimum charge to use your card is £5. I mean, who even carries money with them anymore?! Apart from the old dears in this shop if course.... So to top it off, I had a coffee and I'll be honest, it was a bit ropey. Didn't end up drinking it. So, on to the scores and 5* for the ice cream, -5* for the coffee, -5* for all of their ice creams being less than their minimum card amount, but 10* for the sentimental feelings of being a child and stuffing myself with ice cream! So...
Read moreWhat better a place to rest after a pretty walk through Henley in Arden than Henley Ice Cream Parlor. My partner had the Lemon Meringue flavour iced cream in a waffle cone, and miraculously, it tasted of Lemon meringue (no synthetic sweetened taste). Mine was just a tad disappointing. I had a tub with two flavours, the Dark Chocolate, which was gorgeous, rich and a real POW on my tongue with a very white coconut. Sadly the coconut wasn't strong or a particularly creamy taste or texture, it just gave my tongue time off from the chocolate. This isn't what I look for in ice cream. The ice cream experience is over far too quickly to be bothered with subtlety, I want my contrasting flavour to put up a damn good fight and, although it was pleasant, the taste was submissive and allowed the chocolate the main stage. The atmosphere was charming, a proper tea room and the ladies were very busy...
