On the right track - Henley in Arden The Station
An absolute gem. I have a friend who can remember when the station building at Henley in Arden had a ticket office, waiting room with a real fire and you could get a cup of tea. Then like many stations the building was closed and ticket machines installed outside. The building was boarded up for decades and then along came the Friends of Henley Station – a group of local volunteers with a vision to turn the old building into an asset for the local community and that’s exactly what they did. Through hard work and sheer determination The Station has to be one of the best completed projects I have seen. They have created an amazing venue themed with an obvious nod to the railways. Keeping things local the seating in one room is originally from one of Henley in Ardens old churches. The compact bar manages to serve a wide variety of drinks including ( I am very pleased to say) 3 quality Cask Ales. They hold various community based events and seem to be expanding on that. The atmosphere is always welcoming and friendly. Generally there will be a food vendor outside for peckish customers although cheese rolls are often available at the bar. The venue is dog friendly. The icing on the cake is for those who have travelled by train they have installed a live train information board in the bar so you have no excuse for missing your train home! Keeping people literally on the...
Read moreDropped into this delightful new bar on way back from work to check it out for future visit. I entered a lovely stylish converted station building that had an authentic but welcoming feel. The two ladies behind the bar were welcoming and friendly as well as knowledgeable about their beer which was the main reason for my visit as I love a good pint of ale which they provided at a reasonable price for the area. They offer their own brew as well as guest ale. I will certainly visit again by train for a longer stay. A perfect place to relax and have refreshment after some lovely rural...
Read moreTravelled to Henley Station intending to sample the beers brewed on the premises. Very nice bar but their own beers were unavailable as the microbrewery had been removed. Apparently the intention is to brew at larger premises elsewhere. Three beers from North Cotswold and Hobsons were available which were fine, but as far as I can see there is nothing on the website to indicate their current plans or the temporary (?) non availability of their own beer. Check before you visit to avoid...
