I have been going to the Edge now for about four years, I like it, the food and coffee and friendly staff. BUT, the staff need a good shake up and some training. There are usually about 4-6 youngster's working (Saturday) who spend most of their time chatting to each other behind the counter, missing opportunity's to serve customers. When you arrive you are asked to take a table and then you are completely forgotten. When your order is taken you have to pay up front, which, I was told, is because so many people leave without paying which I am not surprised at as the staff don't know who is doing what. After our coffee arrived and a further 30 minute wait we did enquire as to the progress of our lunch, again looks all round from staff untill they realised they had forgot to place the order. At this time we decided to leave but the staff were unable to process a card refund. It was bit of a disappointment all round. The staff need to be more proactive with "eyes out" to the customer areas at all times so they can better serve customers. The business must be losing money from walk outs, repeat business, and lost opportunity's for orders. With the high staff to customer ratio you would expect some fairly rapid turnover in service. Anyway still like the place so I...
Read moreThe Edge is a wonderful place, for so many reasons. The coffee is always good and perfectly presented. The cakes, pastries, tarts, bread and all things baking! Are hand made and so good, you can tell how much care and skill has gone into creating amazing bakes. Everything else on the menu follows suits in a combination of lovely, locally sourced ingredients in classic and inventive meals that have never failed to impress. But above all of this, the owners Catherine and Chris and their staff carry the place with their personable and welcoming nature. Such a nice place to sit, think, drink, chat and eat. I've had great conversations with many people there now, feels like a home from home :). Always a pleasure, definitely pop in if you are in the area, or not! It will be...
Read moreI wanted to write a review after visiting. Its a lovely cafe and the food was tasty. However I was really disappointed by the veggie breakfast. At only 25p cheaper than the meat breakfast but minus the sausage and bacon, it only had a half an avacado and some soggy spinach to make up for the missing meat. I thought this was pretty poor and felt thoroughly ripped off.
The breakfast included sautéed potato's - but I got less than 4 small cubes of potato which was disappointing.
I think the mark up on this breakfast must be enormous.
With a rise in vegetarianism and veganism I'd strongly suggest re-thinking this breakfast. There are some fab plant-based sausages out there, it wouldn't hurt too add...
