Had a very strange experience here yesterday. Me and my partner ordered two cream teas and sat in the nice garden at the back. When the tea arrived every single piece of crockery had food residue on it, presumably from the dishwasher. Not wanting to cause too much of a fuss, we decided to put up with the dirty teapot, milk jug et cetera, but I went into the café to politely ask if they would replace the cups. The man behind the counter (I’m assuming the owner) seemed very affronted by this, insisted that they were clean and grudgingly gave us some replacements asking me to inspect them to make sure they were up to my standards.
When the scones arrived, they had clearly been microwaved, which is a strange thing to do to a scone I think, and when I opened my pot of clotted cream, it had a very strange texture. We told the man about the cream situation at which point he became very angry, insisting that there was nothing wrong with it and that the use by date was irrelevant as the cream had been frozen and defrosted, which I suppose accounts for the texture.
Maybe he was having a bad day, but I would suggest perhaps this man is not best suited to a career in...
Read moreLovely little sleeper of a place run by volunteers from the village... The inside tea room has a few tables with plenty of places to sit, the staff are very friendly here and suggested as it was sunny we sit outside in the garden (wow what a place), the courtyard should be the huge selling point to this place as it was a stunning lawn area with the old fashioned courtyard aspect. The menu is basic but perfectly fine for a good pot of tea and a coffee, my children loved the banana milkshakes with cream and marshmallows. We will...

Maybe they were having a bad day, but we ordered full english and all the fried items tasted like the oil used to fry them was old, the beans were tepid, the butter was rancid. We waited 40 minutes for this to arrive which they apologised for and said was because of short staff, so fair enough. Lovely garden out back and dog friendly, hence gets 2...
