Well....what can we say about this shower of s#/7£ that work in here Tried to order did order 3 burgers and 2 kids meals ...1 hour and 15 minutes.... Still nothing ... watching people order half an hour after me, something wrong here Not the only family who never got there order ...and smokers standing in the doorway stinking the place out never again..did get money back...but took off drinks price...didn't know that till my daughter after we left ... that wouldn't have happened to me.....4 times asking when food would be ready....15 minutes each time

Apparently, according to Alic, this used to be a Yates where my daughter worked in her student days. Now a Craft Union owned bar. No real ale but otherwise a great value destination. A pint of Guinness, pint of Carling and half a Cruzcampo for less than a Guinness in Manchester. Lovely staff. Large open plan corner plot. Boothroyd bear liked my pint of the black stuff. Toilets are DOWNSTAIRS.

Edit for the response from the owner; my review was posted 4 years ago! 😅 Sunderland city centre based, very spacious, airy, vibrant. Lovely food, great selection along with drinks. Manager is a bit of a let down to the place.

A very fine old building situated at corner of Sunnyside and Toward Road in City centre. Used to be called Yates. Mainly on ground floor and handy for accessibility with toilet facilities for those of us who cannot handle stairs. Plenty of seating. I tend to find far end from bar does tend to get a bit crowded at weekends and on match nights but nevertheless it ideal afternoons. Parking space for 3/4 cars right outside for mobility card holders. Opposite Sunderland Museum so handy for a visit there. I tend to go there in afternoons when not too busy. That corner is at a busy junction but handy for .ost city centre busses and the Metro station is a mere 100 metres away so budding Allan Wells youths can race their mates to see who wins and doesn't buy the first round! They have two pool tables furthest away from the bar which some wouldn't like as one often as to watch when people are playing as a bit tight near tables. Be that s it may therefore are plenty of pleasant seating places a little quieter. I didn't notice any catering being done so o presume only snacks available. Prices are very reasonable as their nearest competitor across the street is a Wetherspoons, although the spirits are a bit pricey...

Visited on Friday as we have been to Yates from opening for many years and always happy with service until today staff were the worst we have Experienced from manager to miserable bar staff on day shift the reason for 2 stars one for always can now always get a seat the other star is you get a good coffee and warm muffin you should get a receipt as I paid at the bar for my drink coffee and muffin when it arrived the staff member asked for the money saying that the manager said that it owing but he was the person who I paid at the bar it took a while to get sorted as I hat to go back to bar he was rude and still saying that money was owing the situation was the till receipt was then looked at and found payment was paid so will go back to Yates ???? Yes when we get a good standard of staff hope mane management from Yates find this review from a...

It was a busy day we visited this pub in Sunderland just opposite The Winter Gardens. A packed pub shame that on my visit they were short staffed even the manager working the kitchen and serving as well as clearing tables on the way back. The old adage never come back empty handed. Friendly staff when they had the chance to breathe a credit to the Manager and Company. My only but is that Disabled toilets were for all to use and in a bit of a state by the time I got to use it. Previous occupants being women for the previous hour nearly. Shame they couldn't use the downstairs...
