Recently visited here for food for the first time with 4 of my friends. You know a place is good when you're the 5th wheel on a double date and still enjoy yourself.
Firstly, I want to say, the staff here are really nice. Lots of places have nice staff, but, above and beyond here. It's so refreshing. Granted, I don't usually get food from places like this, I'm more of a Chinese takeaway freak, but still.
One thing the average person in Sunderland is going to freak out about at first is the price. You're looking at £10+ for nearly every meal on the menu, and that can seem quite pricey for some people, hell, it's pricey for me. But the food is to DIE for here. It's honestly so tasty!
I got 'The Italian Job' a burger topped with Bolognese, Mozzarella, Salad and Garlic Mayo, with Dusted Fries for £12.50. It was one of the nicest meals I've ever had, even if the burger was a little TOO packed with stuff to eat properly. It kept falling apart. Although I came to regret my decision ... One of my friends let me try the 'Sticky Pork Belly Fries' (£11.00) and it genuinely left me awestruck for a moment. It was heavenly. Somewhere in the top 10 foods I've ever had.
The reason though, I've only left 4 stars instead of 5 is, the drinks just seem overpriced. Yes you've got a fancy establishment, and you're charging a fair amount for your amazing food. But some of the drinks available are almost twice the price I've seen the same drinks anywhere else; especially when people are about town at night. I guess you're paying for the atmosphere, but personally I think overcharging on drinks just brings in pretentious clientele further into the evening. Establishments that do this directly filter their customers by monetary value and, wether intentionally or not, discriminates against people with less money. To reiterate, I'm completely fine with the higher prices for the amazing food and fantastic cocktails; but charging excessive amounts later into the weekend evenings for drinks on draught you can get anywhere? Doesn't make sense.
Overall though, fantastic place when it comes to food, atmosphere, and staff. I'm eyeing up a lot of amazing sounding foods on their menu, and I'll definitely be coming back to try stuff again.
P.S. The CLEANEST and best smelling public toilets ever? And in the City Centre? Mind-blowing. It was like walking into a...
Read moreI had been here before and everything had gone well. However, I was surprised when I went back a second time and everything went wrong. We arrived at the normal lunch hour and sat down at one of the only free tables. We chose our drinks and food and after a while they came to collect our order. They warned us that they were a few minutes late because it was crowded, and there was no problem for us. The waiter came to us with the bill and the ATM terminal for us to pay. I found it strange because last time I had only paid after enjoying the meal, but I thought it was because the restaurant was full and paid. What is my surprise when I realize that no one else is paying in advance. I was extremely annoyed and irritated when I realized that it was simply because we were speaking another language, Portuguese. It was an extremely prejudiced and xenophobic act, which I strongly condemn. The food didn't take just a few minutes, but an hour and a half. I will never go back, the quality of the food does not compensate for the bad service of the...
