Had high expectations having had food (brisket) from their food van a couple times before Sheepfolds opened, but this visit was not good. Got the jerk chicken and was pre warned when ordering that it would be spicy. Unfortunately what was served up was bland and no spice at all. There was a chicken breast which had clearly been cooked whole and then sliced, no flavouring / spices / marinade on this and very dry. There was then a gravy on top which was OK, and saved the dish from being super dry and inedible. The only saving grace was good plantain side dish, and a delicious mango coconut cheesecake. Based on the main meal I wouldn't return.

Had three courses plus wine at Calabash Tree; the venue is small and intermit; the two ladies on front of house were very polite and attentive. If you have ever visited their van at a festival, you will know what you are going to experience. Being a new restaurant there are new dishes to complement their existing menu all themed with a Caribbean twist. The deserts were both amazing. There is outside seating but they only take bookings for the indoor tables they have so I would recommend booking especially later in the year and book early as this place will fill!

First time here! An unplanned visit so didn't look at the menu prior, my partner went with the beef curry and I went for the dutty fries. Both were exceptional, the seasoning and balance was spot on and the both the beef chunks in the curry and the pulled beef in the loaded fries were perfectly cooked. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. Lovely spot outside on the hottest day of the year where we sat with our dog.

Me my partner and friend went few weeks ago. The staff were okay but the food was seriously lacking. The starters were okay, I had the scallops, (you only get two tiny scallops!), they were overcooked.

Me and my friend went for the more expensive mains, which we instantly regretted when my partner’s tray of food arrived… it was a portion of the price but had at least double the quantity of food.

The salmon was not prepared the best, it lacked flavour, as well did everything else with the dish. Not worth at all the money paid. The same for the pork belly, distinct lack of flavour and poor execution.

Me and my friend left there VERY hungry. In total my share of the bill came to about Ā£40 despite feeling like I’d hardly eaten anything. Wouldn’t mind if it tasted good, but I couldn’t even say that unfortunately.

So if you think about going, don’t order the expensive menu items, stick to the trays, you’ll spend less and have a meal that is...

I recently dined at The Calabash Tree at the Sheepfolds, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with top-class courtesy by Paige and Laila, whose service was impeccable. The wine selection was excellent, perfectly complementing the tremendous food that brought back fond memories of a recent trip to Barbados. The flavors were spot on, compliments to the chef šŸ‘šŸ¼ and all of this came at a very reasonable price.

The staff were incredibly accommodating, making us feel welcomed and well cared for throughout our visit. The ambiance was enhanced by great music, comfortable seating, and a spectacular view of the River Wear, showcasing the impressive regeneration of the City of Sunderland. This restaurant is a true gem, and I can’t...
