Tarantinos Seafood and Steakhouse Sunderland — Restaurant in Sunderland

Was looking forward to this for weeks and it was a waste of time. Took 30+ minutes before we were asked if we had ordered yet. Took ages for the food to come, understandable as cooked fresh, but still it took longer than it should have. Never got asked if we wanted more drinks despite the empty glasses being pilled at the end of the table. Had to ask multiple times before we got second drinks as we would ask staff and they would forget. When food arrived 2 of the meals were cold. One was sent back to kitchen, the other one my friend didn’t bother as she was so hungry she didn’t want to wait anymore. Plate that was sent back came out about 5 minutes or so later, so not bad timing but was only luke warm. Wasn’t sent back again as friend was too hungry to wait again. We had been waiting nearly 2 hours. Steak was chewy and poor quality (one of our party was a trained fish monger and butcher). No tools to crack the lobsters claws with. We were waiting to ask if there was any tools to use but couldn’t get staff attention so gave up. After eating it took ages to get the attention of staff to get the bill. In total we were there for over 3 and a half hours and only spent about 30 minutes eating. When we asked if we could have some money off the bill we were told no because the wait time is expected to be long as food cooked fresh (fair enough) also that the cold plate had been completely recooked so couldn’t have been cold again and that we’d said it was fine when asked (it wasn’t recooked as it took less than 10 minutes to come out. It was either the same plate reheated or it was one that had been made earlier and left on the pass). Multiple people left before ordering their food. We could hear other tables complaining to each other and to staff too. People saying they were going to leave before their food came out because of wait time. Staff seemed very stressed, I would be too with a room full of unhappy customers, but it wasn’t a nice atmosphere and came across as quite harsh when they spoke to customers. I was going to review this either way and this was just unfortunate. I’d start by saying the staff particularly one brunette was absolutely lovely super helpful and attentive. No fault or complaints on waitstaff. Arrived for booked table but had to wait quite a while for the table in a very awkward empty room. Waitress came to order I advised her we had preordered. (Another thing I was messaged on Facebook to send a deposit then again on the day to preorder none of this is told on the website) Turns out our preorder wasn’t relayed. No problem just extra wait. We are an hour and 45 in by the time food comes. Presentation amazing but unfortunately where it ended. Steak was tiny (please display oz on menu) it was also blue when asked for medium rare. Mushrooms wet on the outside but raw on the inside. Same with some of the chips, bigger ones completely raw in the middle. Least of my worries at this point. As I’d ordered a seafood boil. I love seafood and go out of my way to find good seafood restaurants. I bit into muscle for the overwhelming taste of horse manure to come squirting out. I spat it out then went on to inspect the other muscles they all smelt exactly like horse manure. The crabs legs when cracked were like dried cheese strings. No meat at all really all dried up. The lobster did not taste like lobster, more like crab meat mashed up then put back in the shell with cheese on top? Also needs displayed on the menu. The prawns when cracked were grey and dusty and stunk. We told the waitress who said it was fresh today. I believe she was told this as she was genuinely shocked but none of this was fresh. It also appears all seafood is boiled then the seasoned boil is poured on after as there was no season taste to the potatoes no colour or anything. With the staff saying it was fresh my husband took then the bowl with the prawn in over to then where the waitress verbally and physically gagged. £40 was removed from a £200 bill and I’m pretty sure the deposits were not removed from the bill either. Went for a meal to celebrate my friends birthday on Saturday, overall we were all quite disappointed. I ordered the mixed gyros board which I was advised was steak and chicken, I also asked what it came with to which I was told bread, chips and rice. When the food arrived I noticed straight away that it didn’t have any rice so once the waitress had finished putting down all the food I asked if I was due some rice she said sorry I will go get it. While I was waiting for my rice I started to eat some chicken which was in a pile in the middle of the plate which consisted mostly of mushrooms with some peppers and tomato’s too, I realised there was no steak there so when she brought the rice I then said the other waitress had advised there would be chicken and steak (plus it was labelled as mixed gyros) so she said sorry I will get you some fillet which she didn’t ask me how I wanted cooked and it arrived a few minutes later very well done, it was a bit burnt around the edges. Also the ‘bread’ I would expect to get with gyros would be flat bread or even pitta bread but it was just 2 dry wraps that had been laid down next to the pile of mushrooms so had soaked in all of the grease and were just soggy. My fiancé ordered a T-bone steak which they originally brought the wrong sauce with but when was mentioned they did get the correct sauce. The T-bone steak was not a very good one as was probably half big chunks of fat. My friend got the seafood pasta which was nice and her fiancé ordered the chicken Kiev which didn’t look as nice as it does on their instagram but he said it tastes nice so no issues with that. The starters we had were actually really nice, we ordered the fillet steak skewer with teriyaki sauce and the pizza skins to share. I think the starters being nice made it even more apparent how disappointing some of the main courses were.
