I like this place, I always have. But on this visit the staff were clearly feeling the pressure of being busy. There is no queuing system - as regulars will know - but non-regulars won't. There was one older guy who was trying to catch the barmaids attention, after she'd passed him over several times, which resulted in her snapping that if he shouted again she wouldn't serve him. The guy pointed out that people were waiting patiently but were being ignored by the barstaff. He pointed out one younger lad who was waiting patiently at the end of the bar and had been there for ages. This prompted who I assumed was was the boss to come out and reiterate that anyone abusing the barstaff would not be served (perfectly right!) but then began to belittle the lad for standing at the end of the bar, albeit patiently, and saying if he had any sense he'd realise that the tills were at the other end of the bar so staff wouldn't serve him there. I felt there was no need to have a go at the lad like that. He wasn't aggressive or shouting, he was just waiting patiently for his turn. Yes, it was extremely busy with football fans but good staff should spot customers who've been waiting patiently for a long time and see that they're eventually served respectfully. Anyway, other than that one incident, it's a great pub and...
Read moreJust paid my first visit to the Peacock . Was there for an anti racism punk gig and what can I say about the venue . The beer prices to start with are reasonable and they have a nice selection. They also stock Alco free lagers so if your a driver and have travelled to get there you can still have a beer . there is parking nearby in multi storey and its free after 3pm . Right the sound in this place is great and the acoustics are not over loud or too quiet but just right . the best thing is the lighting here as its not red where lots of places are so if your a photographer you will get good photos. I will be back for a return...
Read moreStaff, warm and welcoming, varied lunch menu and good value for money. Unfortunately the disabled toilet was very unsafe as the floor had been stacked with folded wooden chairs, tables and steel bollards. This made access almost impossible especially for our party, one of whom was in a wheelchair and I had to physically move some items in order to get the wheelchair close to the toilet, the hand dryer was not working either. This is an accident waiting to happen, I alerted the staff to the issue and received an apology but this needs to be rectified...
