Aperitif restaurant — Restaurant in Sunderland

Booked the restaurant a month ago to make sure we would get a table as I knew they were busy, the day before I even called to confirm the booking. We had a reservation for 6pm as there was traffic if I called them to let them know we were going to be 10 min late. When we walked in it was packed I tried to gain the hosted attention but the waitress just kept going past me eventually I got someone's attention and they said they'll find me the table another 10min went by and nothing I gained another waitress attention and asked her how long it will be she said she had no idea. We kept standing and waiting another 15 min went by and I grabbed another waitress asking if he had any idea how long we would have to wait he just looked at his watch and said they might have given our table away but didn't give a definitive answer and just said to wait. We then waited another 15min and since no one came around we just gave up and left. I understand it was busy however the restaurant should have no overbooked and it should know how many spaces it had while we waited we spoke with another couple waiting to be seated and they said they called earlier today and made a reservation to the restaurant as it said it had tables. What's the point of making sure to book way in advanced if they don't honor bookings. The whole point of booking a table is to make sure you have space for that person. My experience at this restaurant was very disappointing, to say the least. My main course was supposed to come with chips, it didn’t. I waited and waited and waited, I noticed that our waiter was spending a lot of time with a group of girls at a table in the corner, then I watched him bring the main courses to another table, he then returned to that table with the rest of the dishes. At that point, I got up and informed him that my chips hadn't arrived.

I waited and waited and waited, by now my main course was getting cold and my wife had almost finished her meal, so I went to the bar and asked to speak to the manager, I was told that the manager wasn't in that day. I explained that my chips hadn't arrived and asked if they could keep my main course warm while I was waiting for the chips. Shortly after returning to my seat, someone brought some chips.

When the lady that I had spoken to at the bar brought the bill, I told her that although the food was good, the service that I received was abysmal, needless to say, I didn't leave a tip.

So good food and cocktails, but let down by poor service. It also didn't escape my notice, that although we had booked a table, no table had actually...

First and last visit for me. Waited ages for someone to greet us, which wasn't the best welcome when someone actually took us to a seat. Waited again, 15 minutes, for same person to come and get our order. I ordered drinks and was about to order the food aswell, the waiter stopped me and asked if I was going to the theatre? I said no and he said I'll get your drinks and come back to get your food order. In the meantime other customers who came in after us, were having food orders taken, we were still waiting for drinks! 30 minutes in, my drink arrives, 5 minutes later, my partner's drink arrives. After 40 minutes, the waiter (the owner unbelievably!), is finally ready to take our food order. We refused, wasn't going to give this business my money, and asked for the drinks bill. No surprise that even the bill didn't arrive after 10 minutes and we had to ask again! You shouldn't have to be going to the theatre to be served in a timely manner. The whole place was chaotic, under staffed and offered terrible customer service. All about fitting in as many people as possible but not being able to cope.
