The village of Chobham is a lovely southern english village - when it's not rush hour! The Sun Inn sits in the middle of the village across from its delightful church. This resteraunt/pub has a good bar area and importantly for me serves well kept cask ales - typically Pride and Landlord plus what looks like a rotating beer. They have a large dining area in a barn/rustic setting and then a number of tables outside. The atmosphere is comfortable, seats are good and the tables are not on top of each other. For me the highlights of my visits have been the food options. Although there are some "standard" items on the menu there are also some lovely "different" dishes. Two appetizers I had recently included Trout gravlax whish was very tasteful and tender and a beetroot terrier which was rich in flavor and made for a great start to the meal. They must have a good meat supplier because the filet I had was top drawer. On another occasion I tried the pine nut and lemon ricotta ravioli. This is a terrific dish. The flavors were a great combo and the textures of its ingredients made this a top notch dish. All in a very good experience.A place I would recommend visiting...
Read moreThe Sun Inn, this was a tricky one for me and required quite a few visits. I'm delighted to say it has positively grown on me each time and I do genuinely think you should try it out if you haven't already. Its a tardis yet feels cosy and upmarket all in one. I worked from there for an afternoon in a corner and would definitely return to do this again as it was perfectly easy to be out of the way and still steps away from anything I needed. They play good background music, which is nice. They did make me a 9/10 long island ice tea (with egg nog), which I highly recommend. The food here is very well presented and truly flavoursome. I always thought of this place as a French restaurant, and as that's not my cup of tea, I kind of avoided it. However, the French onion soup is to die for, so I'm coming round! The staff are always very helpful and polite, even if they don't know how to make the drink you asked for. The car park is tiny and the road it's on is pain in the brass but I'm sure those horse and carts managed just fine years ago, so I won't grumble. I usually park on the street to avoid disappointment on...
Read moreI love the Sun and eat there regularly, the Sunday roasts are phenomenal so I was excited to eat there on Christmas Day.
It was £100 a head and I was expecting a great meal. Sadly I feel like I’ve been scammed.
For £100 I received 50ml of soup which was tasty but could have been served in a shot glass. The main event Christmas dinner came without roast potato’s, Yorkshire pudding or stuffing. It came with 1 thin slice of dry turkey, one 1” pig in blanket and with a selection of boiled/steamed veg. I felt pretty angry that The Sun dared to serve such a pitifully small and inadequate meal for £100 a head.
We then received a sorbet which again was around 50 ml and could have been served in a shot glass and the cheese board consisted of 1 piece of cheese.
The meal provided 0 value for money considering our table spent well over a thousand pounds and we all came home hungry. I raised my concerns with the manager at the time and was dismissed. I will never go to...
