Paid a £50 deposit a month in advance for 5 people for the father’s day menu on 16th June 2024. We get to the restaurant at 8pm to be told by our waitress that they have sold out of the Father’s Day tomahawk steaks despite our pre booking and deposit which should have guaranteed us access to this menu. After double checking our waitress informed us that only two tomahawk steaks remained when 4 of our party wished to choose this (hence why we booked this menu!!).
We carried on with our order, and the other two of our party chose from the standard menu and thankfully we all enjoyed our food, it was fantastic but still a shame we couldn’t all have what we reserved on the initial booking.
I paid the bill for the 5 of us and when I got home, I realised that our £50 deposit hadn’t been taken off our bill, which should have been done automatically; it’s not the customer’s responsibility to remember to do this. I called the restaurant at 22:50 upon realising and they would not assist with arranging a refund for my pre-paid deposit as they were closing the shop.
I was told to call the next day between 12pm and 9pm to arrange the refund. This was an inconvenience to me due to the nature of my work, an inconvenience that shouldn’t lie with me since I’m the one owed money! Upon calling the restaurant at 1pm the next day, I was told that the company refund policy had changed and that I might not be refunded my £50 overcharge unless I accepted this in gift card format. I made clear this wasn’t good enough and asked for this to be checked with management. After waiting an hour for a call back, a refund for my £50 deposit was eventually confirmed and processed and I now await these funds.
We had a lovely waitress Bethany who made sure we didn’t want for anything and that we had everything we needed. She was really friendly and accommodating, despite the difficulties she faced when having to tell us they’d sold out of the special menu we had pre booked and apologised profusely on behalf of the restaurant for this mistake.
I am really disappointed with our entire experience as I was left anxiously wondering whether the restaurant would rectify their mistake whilst I was £50 out of pocket. My partner and I are regular customers with miller and carter and this experience has made us reluctant to return.

As a birthday/retirement gift from our daughter Nicola, an all expenses paid gift!! Bless her. We were greeted in the reception area by a lovely cheerful and chatty girl who showed us to our table and introduced us to our steak expert for the night Sinead. The atmosphere was wonderfully intimate with subtle lighting and professionally set tables. As we perused the extensive food and drinks menus our steak expert came over to us. I really don't think we could have chosen a better expert to guide us throughout our experience that night. Sinead is an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, again chatty but very pleasant with it. She couldn't do enough for us all evening. We ordered our drinks and a wonderful bottle of wine then our meals. Our starters arrived in a timely fashion. Perfectly prepared and not over facing like you get in other restaurants. It was delicious. Part of the menu choice consisted of a lettuce wedge of which you chose a dressing to your liking which you could nibble on throughout the evening, this was also delicious. Sinead repeatedly came over, but not annoyingly so, to make sure everything was ok. Our main meal, steak of course!, was cooked to perfection as was our choice of sauce and fries accompaniment. Again not over facing. This, again, was delicious. Afterwards we were offered the dessert menu which we declined having had enough beforehand. Soon after Sinead brought a small creamed dessert on a large plate for me as a special 'on the house' surprise. Around the cream dessert was written, in a toffee sauce, Happy Birthday, which was a very touching extra I wasn't expecting. Overall our experience was fantastic and we would recommend the Miller and Carter restaurant to anybody who was thinking of dining out at a top notch place. Five stars all day long and thank you Sinead for being there...
Read moreMiller & Carter is primarily a steak house although other meats, salmon, sea bass and a crispy fried cauliflower main are available too. It was very busy when we visited but we booked in advance and there was no problem.
The website Gluten Free dishes are accredited by Coeliac UK, which was one reason we chose to eat there. Many items on the menu are naturally gluten free so their Gluten Free menu is almost as long as the full one given to my husband.
We both chose rump steak cooked to our liking accompanied with a choice of dressings. This came with a wedge salad (wedge cut from iceberg lettuce) topped with one of the offered dressings and served in individual bowls. Bacon & honey mustard was my choice. Very tasty and plenty of bacon in it.
With the steak was a piece of 'onion loaf (lots of onions and enough 'bread' to hold it together - delicious) The GF version was visibly different from the standard one, and came with a wooden, cactus topped pick marking it as GF. Also there was our choice of included side - seasoned fries (but we could have had chunky chips or new potatoes)
We also added 3 choices of seasonal vegetables (£10 extra between us): garlic mushrooms, chargrilled vegetables & sauteed greens. The portions were very generous so we easily got in 3 of our 5-a-day.
For dessert I had a deliciously crisp-topped mini creme brulee with coffee. Delicious.
We loved the food and will happily go back. So why have I given only 4 stars? Our server knew we were a GF table but oversights can happen in such a busy setting. And our coffees came with a rolled biscuit in the saucer. The server confirmed it wasn't GF, shouldn't have been there and took it away. An easily solved problem that shouldn't have happened, and a reminder to always double check wherever you eat.
