Judging from the other reviews our experience must have been a one off.. We had a table booked for my niece's 21st birthday, 9 of us in total on a Sunday afternoon so the place was pretty quiet. Parking is easy enough and situated in the old part of Oxted as I like to say. Very small bar upon entering and then realised the whole restaurant had been absolutely jammed with as many chairs as they could fit in with no hint at giving diners any room to enjoy their own party because people would be literally on top of one another. Service was slow, I mean I know it's Sunday but what's a girl got to do to get a drink around here lol. For me the menu sounded fabulous but pricey so that limited me unfortunately even though it was a "big" birthday celebration I still couldn't muster enough pennies. I ordered steak and frites "medium rare" £24. The steak was ok not great, pretty cold and the frites well crikey they were pale and limp and the peppercorn almost had a film on top. The rest of our party weren't too impressed with theirs either especially when some were paying £32 just for a steak and sauce. Yes you have to pay extra for chips. £4 for a sparkling water which never arrived. £12 per cocktail which was absolutely the best thing about the whole dinner. The chilli sunset was spot on! So only two of our party had a starter but they had the 2 course £24 brunch menu, 9 mains, no desserts, half of us didn't drink and our total bill was £478. This has been on my list of places to go for some time to have a nice dinner so I'm glad I did but I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery disappointed, since opening we have regularly visited this restaurant as a treat. We received two cocktails, my lychee martini was delicious but my partners mojito was unmixed and piled up 2 inches over the glass with chunky ice. Iām a fan of lobster! Itās my favourite. They used to serve lobster with the prices listed on the menu and the dish would arrive beautifully cooked and reasonably sized. The last 2 occasions (since removing the price to seasonal) have been really disappointing. On the first occasion the manager deducted the full price of the dish as it was tiny but cooked well. It wasnāt due to complaint, apparently they had run out and the size was an automatic gesture. Last night I received my dish and it was as small as the last occasion and sadly undercooked. I kept trying to make eye contact with the team, of which they had plenty and was ignored. My partners steak was undercooked so as I prefer mine rarer we shared his. When our table was cleared we were asked how everything was. We said ānot greatā and the waitress said, dessert menu without acknowledging our disappointment. Then the bill arrived - asking for Ā£40 for my tiny dry little lobster, this I flagged with the manager this time and he tried to say the weight was correct then comped half saying thatās less than I pay for it. I found this incredibly rude and unprofessional. I still paid Ā£22 for a poor dish and I was treated like I should have been eternally grateful. Wonāt...
Read moreOur first visit to the Cattle & Cocktail for a date night. We were met by the manager as we entered who showed us to our table. He was very welcoming and hospitable. Our waitress was over to us within a couple of minutes to take our drinks orders and we also ordered olives and halloumi bites with chili jam as an appertizer. When they were brought to us we ordered scallops and king prawns for starters and for the mains salmon and the large rib eye steak. The scallops and prawns were very tasty and well presented on the plates. The salmon was presented on a bed of mash potato served with fine green beans. The rib eye was a bit over done for me. I asked for medium rare and it came a touch over cooked. However the steak was well seasoned and a good size. The only other issue with the steak is that I had to order chips as a side to have with it. At £36 for a steak I would expect chips to come with it. I have had better steaks for less money when eating out. Looking at the red wine list, there are only certain wines that you can have a glass of. I wanted a glass of Argentinian Malbec but it was only served as a bottle. The total bill was just over £155 for 2 people with 3 cocktails and 2 Peronis so although this is a nice restaurant with lovely staff it is overpriced and expensive.
Would I go back? I would for a special occassion but for a general eating out experience there are more reasonable priced restaurants around the...
