The two stars are for the food and the drinks, which were delicious and well presented, well done to the kitchen and bar staff.
The three missing stars are for the service, which was appalling throughout.
Stood for over 5 minutes in the entrance waiting to be welcomed in.
Shown to a dirty table (caught the bar man's eye and asked him to wipe it down for me).
Nobody came to take my drinks order, so again spoke directly to bar man.
Wait staff too busy chatting to notice drinks waiting on the bar.
Belatedly asked if I would like water for the table.
Nobody came to take us upstairs to the restaurant, I had to ask someone, 10 minutes after our reservation time, if our table was ready.
Wasn't offered drinks with our food, when the first course of the tasting menu came I had to enquire separately about the wine flight.
Staff practically gave up describing the food and wine to us halfway through the service.
Wine was poured at the table through a strange gas powered contraption (clearly designed to save the restaurant money) I was sprayed with wine twice. First with a white wine, which I politely ignored, assuming the waiter had noticed their error and wouldn't make the same mistake again. Second time with red wine, my shirt, jacket and trousers were covered in red wine spots, like a Jackson Pollock painting.
I was offered a free glass of wine in recompense and given an email address to send the dry-cleaning bill too. The 12.5% service charge was still added to the already rather large bill.
All in all, it felt like their was no leadership on the floor and that the wait staff had little to no training whatsoever, which is a huge shame, as it is not their fault, and amounted to a hugely disappointing experience despite the...
Read moreIt was our first experience at Hammond's so we decided to eat in the restaurant (upstairs). The decor is art deco but with vibes of a Parisian brasserie.
The options were the tasting menu or the à la carte two or three course, we opted for the three course à la carte (£58pp). Also included in the price is canapés, bread, coffee/tea and petit fours.
The food was beautifully presented, tasted absolutely incredible and the portion sizing was very generous.
The service from the second we walked in the door until the second we left was excellent.
We are already looking forward to our next meal there.
If you haven't tried the fine dining restaurant at Hammond's it is an absolute must, the service, food and setting is 100%...
Read moreWe drove to Oxsted purely by chance, and found Hammond’s after parking near the railway station. We looked at the menu and Sunday roast option looked good, and trust me it was. We shared, so I had Beef and my wife Turkey. It was hot, very tasty, the meat was tender and lots of it. Lovely vegetables and the roast potatoes were fabulous. Having devoured the main course, Harriet recommended the chocolate dessert, which she said was amazing. Oh, I can’t tell you how good it was, just wonderful, and how right she was. A light chocolate type mousse in a sphere, with a crunchy outer layer, with a praline type base and berry filling. I do not often leave reviews but felt I must today. Would I recommend it, you bet I...
