This was our first visit. Lovely old pub which has a warren of rooms some have been modernised other could use a little TLC. Loved the old beams and paneling. The food was great good size portions, value for money, good service and food quality. Two things to look at some chairs need a bit of refilling as they are uncomfortable to sit on for long periods and the other is that in the bar area when heading to toilet there is a strong smell from the carpet i would guess. The toilets themselves are clean and smell free. We had starters, mains and some deserts. I only took photos of mains (photos attached). The fish was freshly prepared and very tasty; trio of roasts had good flavours and was tender as was the beef roast; curry was mild/medium and had good flavours. Starters were fab we had soup, duck parfait and nachos. Healthy sized portions and all very tasty. No rush to leave so we spent a very pleasant afternoon enjoying lunch and drinks. Good selection of beers. We will visit again.

Lovely quaint country pub / inn with lots of little rooms / corners and a large garden patio by the car park. A popular choice in Warlingham Reasonably priced food, good quality, not super big but very tasty. The posh fish & chips with battered sea bass, very original. Personal fave - the Whitby scampi! Friendly service but unfortunately on Friday 15th over 50 minutes to receive our mains...just a bit on the slow side and no real updates. Hopefully just a one-off!

White Bear closed. Harrow had no cask beer. Took a chance and visited the White Lion for the first time in 20 years. Not disappointed. Great beer choice (Titanic plum porter) very friendly bar staff, seats available and cheesy chips requested on an off chance came really quickly. A very good Ember Inn. One star deducted for poor external appearance. Come on Ember, spend some money on the place BUT don't touch the interior!

I am completely appalled by the management team at the white lion in Warlingham. For the way in which I have been made to feel & how i have been treated, following a very volatile & aggressive situation. I own a business, I work very hard & am liked & loved by people who know me well in the community. I was at the pub approximately 8 months ago, and was approached by a new partner of an "ex partner" who I have never met before in my life. She approached me & said "can we go outside for a chat ".Confused I followed her outside, sat down & began listening to a barrage of insults. I got up and walked bk into the pub to diffuse the situation. This resulted in me being antagonised for approximately 3 hrs under the watchful eye of vanya who did absolutely nothing. I had sat talking and laughing outside with vanya earlier in the day, and as soon as this happened she did nothing . As a manager of the pub i would expect things to have been dealt with properly to defuse the situation .This woman twice my size and very aggressive followed me into the toilets twice. Not one member of staff came to see if I was getting attacked or if I was safe, after witnessing me being bullied for hrs upon end . Before I left the pub I was approached one last time & almost jumped by this person for responding to being insulted. She was held bk through the doors by about 10 people (customers/friends. I quickly pushed another door to get away. Unfortunately my hand pushed the glass instead of the wooden door frame and the glass cracked in slow motion underneath my hand.I could have slit my wrist had my hand gone through the tiny pane of glass. I just wanted to get away. only at the point of glass cracking did vanya step in and have something to say b4 calling the police.Strange I would say ,seeing as she had more concern for glass than my welfare n safety as a regular customer.police arrived and we were all asked to leave .Since this incident I've not been allowed bk to the pub. I have been made to feel like I am looked down upon . I called vanya 4 months later and she said she would check cc TV and get bk to me. I never got a call bk and have since been ignored . I have been into the pub twice since the incident to speak to a manager on my way home from work .The 1st time i was escorted out by aimee who made me feel like a criminal on a murder charge . A person who normally speaks to me,laughs and jokes with me. This is a pub where I eat drink & am polite to people. I spend more time cuddling peoples dogs & fetching water for them, buying people drinks and doing admin work on my phone & laptop in between talking and laughing amongst friends. I have never been involved in a situation like this before. I have been bk a second time.. yesterday in fact, and the small pane of glass still hasn't been fixed nearly 8 months later! . The pane of glass that is apparently the whole reason why I'm banned. A pane of glass that wasn't cracked intentionally, as truthfully explained above. I would like to understand how if the glass is so important & everyone is so fixated on it . Why has it not been fixed ?. Its a hazard to anyone drinking there. I have offered to fix this pane of glass, as a means to move on & not be penalised or profiled based on it breaking to begin with. The pub seem to enjoy it remaining broken. I was totally let down that day, & have been treated like a criminal in a situation where I was the victim. I've been treated different to all of the other people who have had worse incidents in this pub. These people are bk in there. people have messaged me saing i was totally attacked that night. They cannot understand why I have been banned. I had to find out through friends. Was never told directly & have no written evidence to solidify this .From now on I will be going into the pub unless given a valid explanation & legitimate reason why i cant . In fact there is no valid explanation. I would like someone to contact me to resolve this.Theres a difference between intentionally with aggression &...

Very disappointing to say the least looked at the reviews and in general positive brought my mum here for a birthday lunch and although it was a pub lunch I still thought it would be of a good standard I don’t normally write reviews and don’t want to be seen as slagging this pub off but I was extremely disappointed and hope this review is taken as constructive We turned up unaware their was no table service fine after half an hour went to the bar and ordered Two girls running around trying to do everything took my order fine Food turned up 20 minutes later fine no one asked if we needed anything mustard mayo ect let that go 3 meals chips dry as if they’d been left half a mushroom and half a tomato on a plate with a steak like a chop I wouldn’t give my dog with peas all dry and all just hot enough to eat As i had taken my 85 year old mum out I didn’t want to make a fuss but it was dreadful Again it was pub food and didn’t expect Ala carte but if your charging people you expect some kind of quality When I paid for this experience I did say to the young man at the time my feelings who was very apologetic but wasn’t his fault personally Again I’m writing this as constructive but it was dreadful from start to finish and expected much more if that’s what you do as a business providing food that probably was done in a microwave but at least be hot Pudding couldn’t bare to older myself but my mum did and yes Luke warm Why did you eat it and say nothing at the time I hear you say Because nothing would of changed and I had my 85 year old mum there and didn’t want to make a her feel uncomfortable So all in all an afternoon I’d like to forget with a lighter wallet for the experience This place will not get my custom again and probably many people I know To those who it may concern up your game or lose many more customers if that matter...

This has been reported to the police. I attended a wake today, with one of my staff, who has been previously barred from the Lion. reasons, unclear. However as it was a wake for a local man, a friend, and well known man, Brian, I asked him to attend as he knew him well, as well as his family and children. I assured him that I would speak to the staff, should there be a problem. We stayed outside the entire time, only myself entering the pub to buy drinks. We were all but finished when the large Asian barman approached us, outside, with a man that does not work for your pub, he is apparently the boyfriend of the manager? Charlotte I believe? Anyway, he accosted my colleague, grabbing his glass and trying to force him to leave the table, I intervened, grabbing his hand and asking him to stop. Your staff member then got quite vocal and violent, shouting "I'm not scared of you!", which was a bit weird as I had not threatened him at all, simply stating that we were almost finished with our drinks and were about to leave, only being here to pay our respects. I have been a regular at this pub since 2005, by the way. So, why are people who do not work for you threatening members of the public, outside your pub, and why is your bar manager using people who do not work for you as muscle? I am a licensee, I am considering reporting this to the local council. this behaviour was, frankly, wrong. I would like to see any footage you recorded. As I am sure the police would...
