8 of us walked in with a child. Felt a little bit like the old wild west saloon when we walked in. Staff not very friendly and seemed a bit taken aback that they had some customers arrive. Asked if they could accommodate 8 of us with a child.... Despite there being lots of empty tables they said the best they could do was 2 separate tables.. No offer to push tables together despite having the room. Didn't really seem like they wanted us there. Odd really considering they were about to receive income from 8 people. Fortunately a friendly couple offered their large table to us. Just seemed like a really odd atmosphere in there, particularly off one of the female staff members. To be honest she had a bit of an attitude - she clearly didn't like children or customers. Not sure if they were having a bad day or had an influx of customers that they couldn't cope with prior to our arrival? We left at 2pm and considering it was one of only a few tea rooms in Dawlish they were empty.... Probably a sign really!
Ordered 2 cream teas, quiche, panini and 4 ploughman's and drinks. 1 ploughman's came with no fruit as advertised. All 4 ploughmans were scrimped on ingredients and ingredients were clearly cheap. Small amount of cheese. Cheap salad. Small amount of chutney. Cheap small silverskin onions. Bread nice but all meals came with different thickness of bread. Overall not worth the price for the ploughman's, and probably wouldn't eat here again. Clearly not set up to provide a quality experience.... More aimed at the mass tourist market. Walked out past gays creamery and...
Read moreWe had a beautiful cream tea here yesterday afternoon with my aunt on her 80th birthday. Four cousins were joining us from Ireland as a surprise for my aunt but their flight had been delayed. Even though the tea rooms were closing the owners and staff went out of their way to accommodate us and allowed us that special time to celebrate. We will be forever grateful. The cream tea is by far the best I’ve ever eaten and the scones were absolutely delicious with just the right texture. The atmosphere and the setting was amazing and the mill wheel is the perfect backdrop for photos. And we also got to see the famous black swans just right outside their door. I’d highly recommend and will be sure to come back on our annual visit. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Just a fabulous experience all round. Wishing the owners...
