Great jet skiing! Booked 1-hour 'jet ski safari' for today with me and my son taking one boat each. Safari turned out to be offshore blat south to Ramsgate, past Broadstairs and all the nice sandy beaches which are that way (Joss bay, Viking Bay, etc), then back. I had used a jet ski before, but not for like 25 years, my son never! Waves fairly big but neither of us fell off and we soon got the hang of it. Managed to get up to 35 MPH indicated on dashboard speedo, which with the sea conditions was pretty hairy / uncomfortable and probably too fast (appears nuts are not designed as shock-absorbers after all!). 'On safari', you are accompanied by a safety boat, another ski which is marked up like a police car! They have two zebra-striped skis for hire, which will happily carry two adults each; £130 for two sharing, £90 for a boat to yourself (well worth it, but solo riders must be 18). Wetsuit and life jacket included. There is a cafe, but wasn't busy and not sure many people use it (we only had a cup of tea there) . There is a free car park and two large wet-room showers - which are hot and high pressure, just what you need to blast off the green muck all over you from the beach, which when we visited was ankle deep in fermenting sea weed. If you want to swim afterwards, suggest you go to another beach (try the far end the car park, or far better...
Read moreWe visited after completing Margate parkrun, looking to fill a hole that a 5k leaves.
There was a long wait for food to arrive, which, whilst annoying is understandable as there was a group of atleast 10 of us all ordering at the same time.
The problems only arose when food started to arrive at our table.
First, staff that didn't know what drinks they were dropping off. Though, they seem young and new so we'll let that slide. The main issue was a mix up of orders. We ordered a breakfast burger without egg due to an intolerance. When it arrived at the table it had an egg. We had to have a sausage sandwich instead as they had no buns left.
Next was the scrambled egg on toast. When ordering I asked if brown bread was available, after being told yes that's what I asked for. When it arrived not only was it seeded instead of brown but it was also the ends of the loaf. I may seem picky but I feel if you specify something that's what you should get, or tell me it's not available.
Side note on the scrambled egg, it contains chives, there was no description of this on the menu.
On the whole, food was decent especially for price. Just couple of things that were a bit...
Read moreGreat area if you don't mind jet skis in the background, the cafe food is good and dogs are welcome, staff are pleasant apart for one jobsworth who seems to think he is guardian of the whole promenade, including the parking spaces and times... There are signs saying that the barriers will be closed and locked at 5pm.. Which they are.. Fair enough,.... But when I told him that we planned to stay overnight and would be happy for the car to be locked in he went into diktat mode.. Yelling at me in a foreign accent that he was under orders not to allow anyone to park between 5pm and opening time the next morning. I pointed out that no signs indicated this and that my car would be staying the night. He went so far as to waste police time by calling them out before having to eat humble pie (which I let him have for free) when they told him that I was in the right and no law was being broken. So... Visit and enjoy, especially if you are dog owners, but be prepared for a rather silly man in a baseball cap and a watch keeping an eye on your...
