Kelly’s Cafe — Restaurant in Thanet

If you're local to Westgate-on-Sea or Thanet in general then get yourself down to Bethany's the next time they have Chocolate Orange Cheesecake, because WOW! It was so airy and light and delicious. The steak sandwich was also pretty amazing. Keep reading for our full review.

Here at The Kent Food Blog we’re on a mission to try as many new restaurants throughout Kent as possible, and some old favourites too! Next on the list is the delightful little Bethany's Sandwich Bar & Cafe in Westgate-on-Sea. A reasonably new addition to the town, they opened in August 2020 (after starting up right before lockdown in March!) and have been offering tasty treats ever since! Run by the lovely Clare and her husband Steve, and named after their daughter Bethany it is a truly welcoming, lively, vibrant cafe with a great atmosphere.

I was greeted by Clare, the owner and offered to try some of their delicious goodies. The chef made me a tasty hot steak sandwich filled with steak, onion, peppers, mushrooms and cheese, it was like a steak fajita without the spice but with all the flavour! Something I wouldn't usually pick for myself but it was really lovely and a nice change from the standard ham or cheese. I washed the sandwich down with a creamy butterscotch milkshake! The milkshake was lovely and fresh and super creamy, it didn't last long enough for my liking!

Not only do they offer a variety of homemade cakes in a variety of flavours, they make cookies and cheesecakes, I was sad I missed out on the very popular banoffee pie!

The star of the show is their huge hot and cold sandwich, lunch and breakfast menus! I have never seen such an extensive menu with classic favourites like egg mayo, ham and tuna, but with some fancy extras like steak or smashed avocado and poached egg on toast, the hipsters dream!

All in all the service was fantastic and the food was great. We will definitely be back for breakfast when we FINALLY move to Westgate-on-Sea in the hopefully not too distant future and when Bethany's is back open to sit outside and eventually inside! You can book to eat outside already from the 12th April, why not pop in for a Bethany's afternoon tea?

Taste ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 Stars! - Hot and tasty sandwiches, cold baguettes and sweet treats, all that taste wonderful and homemade with love.

In-House Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 Stars - Clare couldn't have done more to get us something amazing to try, recommending the delicious steak sandwich!

Presentation ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 Stars - Everything looked homemade and delicious, the milkshakes were presented in a clear cup with cream on top and the sandwiches were full to bursting of the lovely fillings.

Price ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 5 Stars - Really great value for money, the baguettes are not by any means small and a great price from £2.50, made to order in front of your eyes.

Location ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 4 Stars - Westgate is a little bit of a faff to get to, as the main road leading to it is a nightmare! But if you live in Westgate or are happy to travel then Bethany's is well worth it.

This venue changed management several years ago and is now called Kelly’s Cafe. Selected due to its high ratings and we were not disappointed. Easy free parking in surrounding roads, nice summer morning and we choose to sit outside. We throughly enjoyed our breakfast and the service was exceptional, reasonably priced. The menu looked really good and next time we are in the area we will not hesitate in returning. Some of the food/beverages being served to other customers also looked yummy. The cakes in the cold chiller looked delicious but we were too full after our generous sized breakfast to try them ! All in all a locals Cafe that prides itself on the quality of their food/service to retain regular customers and after speaking to some of the locals, they speak highly of this venue on both fronts, easy 5* rating from me, highly...

Popped in for our first visit and certainly wasn't disappointed. Had a special breakfast of poached eggs and avocado on toast which was lovely and very reasonably priced. Mrs had sausage and egg roll which was excellent especially the flavour of the sausage which were pork and apple. Very friendly and relaxed will definitely look forward to returning at some point. Returned many times since and just been to the Christmas music afternoon. Lots of people enjoying their mulled wine and hotdogs plus cakes of course. Lovely...
