This is the deli of dreams!
With heavens tap on full blast, I was looking forward even more so to Picnic, and what a fun rainy afternoon it was!
With intention to sit in, I wasn’t expecting it to be packed and buzzing, but was welcomed by another local restauranteur to join their table and wine tasting. Being poured a taster and having ordered the Chicken Caesar sarnie I felt like I’d just tripped over a winning lottery ticket.
The sandwich is… incredible! I’m a big fan of simplicity in order to hero incredible ingredients and this is a keeper I keep thinking about. It’s got freshness, crunch, cocktail gherkins on the side and really good potato crisps. This is the adults packed lunch at the school of flavour.
Trying not to smile too much, I love looking at the walls made up of wines and the fridges full of craft beers, ciders, fresh local cheese and saucisson that form a collage of art from the variety of labels and colours.
A sneaky half time beer on tap went down a treat as I eyed up the basque cheesecake… that creamy fromage front and teasing caramelised almost leopard skin top. It was beyond good. It was everything I wanted in a dessert affair.
The team are so lovely and the community they bring to Cliftonville that has evolved over the years makes me think that every community should have a Picnic deli. I left of course with some wine bottle art, friends and yep, I have and will keep coming back....
Read moreI was so eager to give this place a try I’d heard some good things on social media so I took a trip down to cliftonville Margate .
Firstly I love the feel of this place , nestled away down one of the side streets it’s a very busy cafe but had a sort of cosy feel to it .
I went for the Welsh rarebit toastie I paid £9 for the toastie then couple quid on top for the karma cola. The first thing I see was the rack of freshly made focaccia and then secondly the smells coming from the kitchen ohh it did smell good !! This wasn’t your normal toastie they used the focaccia as the bread for the toastie and this is a game changer ! One I love focaccia bread but 2 it just works . Then I had my first bite and it was a train of cheese !! Hi can never have too much cheese in my humble opinion and this was loaded with it ! Very messy and get bit tricky to eat but it’s so worth it , anything you normally have from your classical Welsh rarebit but in lovely bit of focaccia . The staff were very hospitable and friendly , I think this was great value for money and I’m sure there be others that would disagree but hey ho ! This is a great little spot and little gem in Cliftonville if you haven’t been already then get down there and see for yourself . Go check them out on their socials likewise for myself and all food content @bigchefeats Much love...
Read moreWithout doubt the best sandwiches in the known universe. Just delicious. Why we hadn't tried this place until this week is beyond me. I had heard great things but hadn't been. Just amazing, fresh, homemade heaven in your cheeks! Prawn sriracha on their homemade granary bread is making my mouth water just typing it. Husband had their chicken Caesar and raved about it. Going back later for the homemade Basque cheesecake which we were too full to...
