Visited yesterday with the family and played the Egyptian Exodus room. Having completed previous escape rooms before we decided to challenge ourselves as the difficulty rating was 5/5 for this room.
Upon arrival, our host, Lewis, made us feel very welcome. He offered us hot drinks before going through a few health and safety details and explaining the details of the experience to us. He then left us and soon enough returned in costume and the experience began.
I can't comment too much in detail about the escape room itself as I'd hate to spoil the experience for anyone looking to visit but it is very well built and extremely immersive. One thing I found particularly noteworthy is that, unlike some escape rooms, The Escapement don't put you under a lot of pressure to escape in a certain amount of time. The allocated time slots are 90 mins, which gives a good amount of time for any group looking to take in the experience and not necessarily escape in the quickest time possible. However, the latter is of course an option if you wish to play it that way.
Lewis was truly exceptional, he really made our time both before, during and after the escape room one to remember. He's clearly very passionate and performs his character very well, and is happy to joke around as well which was great. Even the debrief following our escape was entertaining, something which can't always be said for other escape rooms.
Overall, a superb way to spend an evening and highly recommended. Massive shout-out to Lewis for...
Read moreNow we've done all 3 rooms at the above, I can give a full and honest review.
Let's start with the staff as those who do these rooms know that places can live or die by the people running them, and I find it impossible to find fault with any of the staff at the above, they are friendly, helpful and most importantly, you can see that they love what they do, and every time I've been, they have great suggestions on other places to visit, showing that they spend their spare time doing more escape rooms!
Pirate themed room was some amazing detail in the room, which to be fair is true across all rooms but I'd say was most impressive in this one. I'd also say for all those budding escape rooms adventurers, this might be the easiest of the 3 rooms on site, not easy but easier.
The pit thematically had more going for it than the pirate themed room as its easier to emulate a pit than an entire ship! This room was a bit more on the physical side of things so dress appropriately, and maybe bring some water, much like a real pit it can get quite warm down there!
The Egyptian tomb, without spoiling anything has a sand floor so footwear is important if you don't want to get sand in between your toes!
All great rooms, well constructed, a real avoidance of just standard padlocks and to keep solutions thematic as well as interesting
Margate is blessed to have not one, but two of the best escape room companies in the whole country, and this company deserves your...
Read moreWe did the Egyptian themed escape room at The Escapement. The previous escape rooms that I have done elsewhere have had simple plain doors and no effort was put into the exterior however Escapement was different. Right from the entrance of the room you are transported to a tomb. It had a distinctly similar feel to the old TV show, Crystal Maze. We were greeted with a slightly more detailed introduction to the room than we were used to, which personally I am less keen on as I prefer to feel like I've been dropped into a room with minimal explanation, however I assume they did this from experience of others having done the room. The room itself was brilliantly decorated with fully emmersive theming. I won't go too much into the puzzles, as I don't want to spoil anything. This was a more logical room that requires problem solving and deciphering rather than hunting for lots of clues. There were 4 of us doing the room and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. At the end we were each presented with a little charm and informed if we complete the other two rooms in Margate we would be granted access to their new room in Broadstairs. This is clearly a bit of clever marketing, but clever it is indeed as we're already talking about booking our next trip. I would highly recommend Escapement for those into team puzzles. It was great fun! Thanks for being fantastic hosts....
