Smoked — Restaurant in Thanet

My sister, my mum and I visited this restaurant on Saturday 30th September to celebrate my sister’s birthday. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who directed us to sit outside in the back garden, and she was soon at our table answering my sister’s questions about the gluten free options. My sister is coeliac and cannot eat gluten, and after the previous events of the evening we felt reassured that we would be having a delicious meal that all of us could enjoy.

Sadly, despite the initial attentiveness of the two waitresses and receiving our drinks, it would appear that we were forgotten about and we were left for almost an hour without our food and without any update as to its whereabouts. During this time another couple were seated outside, having arrived half an hour or so after us, and they had received their food.

Just as we were about to leave, one of the waitresses who had served us earlier came out to query something about our order. Understandably disheartened by our long wait, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waitress and requested that our food order be packaged to take away as we were tired of waiting and quite rightly frustrated. The waitress apologised and we waited a further 10 minutes before agreeing to pay for our drinks and leave. By this time, our food was ready so we paid the bill and left, keen to get home and eat after what had proved to be a disappointing evening at not one but two Broadstairs restaurants.

Upon arrival at home, we were once again disappointed. Our order was incorrect and certainly not worth the almost £60 that we had paid. The portion sizes were paltry and my mum and I did not receive the gyros we had ordered.

The purpose of this meal out was to celebrate my sister’s birthday. For someone with a food allergy, eating out can be a stressful experience and being forgotten about and then treated as an afterthought was upsetting and deflating to say the least.

I understand that the head chef has recently left, I contacted him and he was very nice and apologised even though he no longer works there. It seems it has gone downhill quickly since...

We were excited to try this place and have followed them on Facebook for a while therefore, had an expectation before going. Sorry to say but we were quite disappointed. Having sat outside, next to the kitchen we quickly realised that the meat dishes were pre-cooked and only heated in a microwave which made the meat tough and overcooked. The prices that are being charged and the fact that this establishment call themselves a "smokehouse", I would expect freshly cooked to order meat dishes (excluding the brisket as I realise it is cooked over a long period of time) and definitely would not expect to hear a microwave pinging every 5mins. There was not a single bbq / smoker in sight. The portions are a good size and we did end up taking leftovers home. Dessert menu was a bit off theme given this is a "smokehouse" and the meats seemed to be drenched in shop bought sauces that were not entirely authentic I.e. jerk chicken which was lacking flavour and the spicy heat you get from a traditional marinade. All in all, the meat was bland, overcooked and disappointing but mac n cheese, chips and shrimp were very good. As we went for a "smokehouse" experience, this is not what we got and have therefore rated this food as 1 / 5 star, the only saving grace for this place was the great service we...

The food was amazing we had the gyros and we ordered so many chicken wings.

Omg the chicken wings they do this one with whisky and pickle called pickleback wings they are absolutely amazing and a reason to go back let alone to try stuff we didn't get to try this time round.

The price is very fair and the portions are great for sharing and splitting between people. The chips were cooked to perfection, my kid had a burger which he said was the best burger he'd ever eaten and he also had a milkshake which was an absolute treat.

My biggest issue was we didn't have room for dessert, just another reason why we have to go back.

The staff were friendly and very warm and attentive they gave use all the time we needed no rush like you get in some places. They also have a garden out back which we kinda wished we saw before hand it would have been nice to eat out there.
