The Smokehouse in Broadstairs. This little restaurant has been taken over by Vince, an enthusiastic and passionate owner. He’s welcoming and can’t do enough. I called several weeks ago to book a table for my family and in particular my daughter whose birthday it was.
He asked how I has heard about them, and I explained that about 3 years ago we went there, again for my daughters birthday, where we had a super time, great food and nice staff. So when he told me he had just taken it over, and hoped we would have just as good a time as the previous occasion, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
We arrived at the designated time, to a warm welcome and shown to our table. Vince came to take the drinks order and offered a plethora of various types of gin along with many types of tonic….who knew there were so many types! The drinks came along with the food menu. We sat for some time perusing the menu, and decided on our dinners. Wendy, our waitress took our orders and we chatted between ourselves for a little while, when the starters arrived. 2 Prawn cocktails, 1 shell on prawns with a delicious chilli sauce and 1 deep fried mozzarella balls with a chilli dip, and grilled halloumi cheese with sweet chilli dip, all plates cleared and 4 happy customers. There was silence as we ‘hmmmed’ and sighed with each mouthful.
There was never a long wait between courses, so when the mains arrived we all tucked in. 1 rare ribeye, 1 medium ribeye, 1 pulled pork burger and 1 smokehouse beef burger, along with the sides, which included 3 portions of chunky chips and 1 bacon and herb croquet, out of everything there the side dish that stood out was the onion rings, thin, crispy and the batter was so fine, these are a must!!!
Again we all ate up and enjoyed the food. Don’t change the butcher, the ribeye was sooo tender, tasty and beautifully cooked.
We weren’t sure wether a pudding was in order, but it was my girls birthday, so we made room on the waist bands!!! 1 profiteroles (yummmeee) 1 sticky toffee pudding with custard, 1 chocolate brownie cake with ice cream and 1 millionaire shortcake with ice cream. Needless to say, after all that, there were 4 full and happy ladies, I asked each of my girls what mark they would offer if asked. With no hesitation it was 4 nines. Just a few tweaks here and there and you’ll get a full house. Considering you have been open for a matter of weeks…bravo👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you Vince and staff, a lovely evening was had by all.
Ps, the atmosphere was nice but too much chat from a large table of lads about football, who knew there was 3 hours of it to...
Read moreSaw a review for tonight further down saying they were turned away when the restaurant was empty. We were sat by the door (table of 6) saw this person come in with a group of 6 no reservation and was turned away - the restaurant had our table, a group of 12 adults (plus children making it more like 16) and another couple. Then after this group was turned away annother group of 4 and another couple woth bookings came in. This meant all of the tables were in use so where they got the restaurant was empty is beyond me and is clearly someone just posting a fake review because they didn't have the foresight to book. I had to comment as I dont think its right to have people influenced by bad reviews when I know they aren't true. Our experience was great Vincent the owner and our server was helpful, friendly and welcoming he explained the menu options fully. The starters were lovely. Our group tried the King prawns, the garlic mushrooms (lush) and the sharer combo(tasty and filling). Our mains - ribs, steak, mushrooms (vegan option), fish and 2 burgers. The only improvement comment we could think to make was that the burgers needed a signature sauce of some kind (but then again if they did that others would say they wanted to be able to add a sauce as and when they wanted). This was our first time to this restaurant and the food was tasty, piping hot with a good portion size. We all let completely stuffed, satisfied and saying we would hapily return. Thank you for the...
Read moreVisited this place as a family of 5 whilst on holiday. I called to see if any tables available had a helpful conversation with vince on the phone and then turned up to the restaurant and they were very welcoming .
Food ordered which arrived in great time! All tasted amazing.
My son has a dairy allergy and there was a mix up with the burger bun which was very quickly solved and we were given a free burger and my son had extra chips as an apology.
The service was 5* and my 9 year old son told Vince that he would give them 5 * and even gave them a cash tip to say a extra thank you. We would definitely be eating here again if we visit this area again. Very highly recommend this place just make sure you book a table as it gets full quickly due to amazing food . Thankyou again
At the end of the meal my partner and I shuffled our bank cards and asked vince to choose one to see who would pay, and my partner definitely thinks he chose the...
