Xylo Brewing Ltd — Restaurant in Thanet

The range of beers at Xylo is consistently great, their own brews are extremely accomplished and as good, if not better than the excellent guest beers that appear on the board. It’s the beers and the great views that keep me coming back whenever I’m in Margate for a break (once or twice a year).

However, I’ve always found the service to be lacklustre at best, and over the past 18 months of the pandemic, downright frustrating. On my most recent visit I was told there was table service, but after quite a wait and seeing others finally approach the bar, I did the same to get a drink. The following day I visited again and sat in the top section where I was served reasonably quickly.

However, on the other table of the top section, an array of used glasses from previous customers sat waiting to be taken away. It was only when a couple came to sit at the table that the waitress took said glasses away. It had been over 15 minutes and the bar wasn’t busy, but, hey time flies when you’re scrolling on your phone.

I then watched the couple go through the same emotions that I had previously, “we’ve been told it’s table service, so where is the waitress?”, the house plants on the top deck were similarly parched, waiting for a drink of water! Sadly, said couple had to wait even longer for their drinks to be delivered as the waitress struck up a conversation with another table, comparing their tattoos and where they had them inked.

When in Margate I’ll always head to Xylo for the beer, but the service really needs to...

We had a lovely drink in Xylo last weekend. We went in having been for drinks elsewhere first of all, and really wanted to find somewhere quiet where we could have a decent conversation and be able to hear one another. The bar was busy, but it's laid out in such a way that everyone isn't shouting over one another and the music is just the right volume to add atmosphere without making everyone in the room compete to be heard. Service was really friendly and helpful. Every area was clean including toilets. We sat on the mezzanine level where we could watch the world go by (and enjoy the couple on the next table drunkenly attempting to play Cluedo). We will definitely go back. I don't drink alcohol but appreciate having options besides Coke and juice - but there were plenty of alcohol-free beers to...

This is by far the best pub in Thanet! Not only do they brew their own amazing beers on site, the staff are always attentive to their customers and very knowledgeable about the beers that they serve. The table service is extremely good even when busy and if you do happen to have to wait a little while there’s no better venue, with sea views and brewing paraphernalia to ponder over what more could you ask for. 5 star service from the great Abby who is always happy to see me.
