Not safe for food allergies!! Shocking service and attitude towards allergens! I went here today for lunch with my partner. I am coeliac (gluten free) but had done my research and read reviews gushing about their options so I was looking forward to trying out this cafe/restaurant. Unfortunately when I informed the blonde waitress that I am coeliac and asked what on the menu is gluten free or can be made gf (this is standard), she said “and what?” whilst pulling a look of disgust. Naturally, I was a little taken aback so I simply asked if she could ask the chef what is gluten free, thinking perhaps she may not have understood. She went to the kitchen, the pass could be seen from our table, and spoke with the chef for no more than a couple minutes so I had assumed that she was finding out what options were available - great? When she returned immediately after those couple of minutes she started tapping her foot asking what we would like to eat. I asked again what on the menu was gluten free as I couldn’t make my choice (and we had had the menus for no longer than 3 minutes!!) until I knew what was safe for me to eat. The waitress became quite confrontational tutting at me suggesting I have a salad or they could make me the eggs and I could pick the bread off if I didn’t want it. Of course, I cannot do this as that plate would already be contaminated (coeliac). Rather than trying any further to find out what was safe to eat me and my partner left as the waitress seemed to either not care or want a confrontation of some sort, it was a really odd situation. Quite frankly I am shocked that a restaurant with such a reputation online would suggest what this waitress did to someone simply enquiring about allergens on the menu. If I had been contaminated here it causes damage to my intestines, others with wheat allergies can have anaphylactic shocks. The attitude of this establishment could seriously harm anyone with a food allergy, they really need to educate on...
Read moreAbsolutely, here's the review in English: Dolce Cafe: Pleasant Atmosphere with Some Culinary Shortcomings I recently visited Dolce Cafe and must admit that the atmosphere and decor of the place made a positive impression. The overall vibe is pleasant and inviting. The efficient and friendly service is also a plus, as was the quickly served flat white coffee, which was quite good. Unfortunately, the main dish, Eggs Benedict, left something to be desired. The eggs were edible, but I personally prefer a runnier yolk. The biggest disappointment was the quality of the ham, which was rather poor. The portion size was also not particularly generous. In conclusion, Dolce Cafe is a place with a pleasant atmosphere and good coffee, but the kitchen could improve the quality of ingredients and portion sizes. Nevertheless, the kind and professional service means that a return visit could be considered, perhaps to try other items...
Read moreThe late breakfast I had here today was very good. I had the vegetarian option. Eggs, toast, mushrooms and halloumi all cooked to a very high standard. I believe the mushrooms were cooked in butter which was a nice touch, and they were good quality, as was the bread that made the perfectly grilled toast. Coffee was not the best I've ever had, but was to a high enough standard for an Italian place. Presentation was excellent. Plus I was served very quickly in spite of the place being very busy. The only suggestion I have is that I wasn't noticed for a couple of minutes after I walked in, but that was more than made up for by the high standards throughout, and a good...
